Green Star Polyps vs. Sunset Monti - Who wins?

KMP

Wag More; Bark Less
My star polyps are happy; beginning to work its way down the rock I have them on. I have a frag of sunset monti on the bottom of the same rock. When they collide - who wins?

That's what I was thinking - fortunately, I can still move the sunset monti if needed.

I can tell u from experience the gsp will win, tough as nails. I keep ripping mine out cause its getting too close to my sps but it comes back so fast. Tough stuff

However, you can isolate it, get it on a rock away from the otherones, trim it as it grows. GSP looks nice for a weed coral.

I agree, have always liked GSP. I have two rocks with GSP that are isolated from the main rocks. The rock in question stands 6" high and has GSP at the top and I have a sunset monti frag on the base of that rock. For the longest time it appeared the GSP was going to stay on top but I see it's starting to work its way down. Ultimately, looks as though it will displace a mini carpet anenome and my sunset monti. Shame, as its a great combo right now.

When I first started I went to Aquatic Gallery in Milpitas and in their store front window was a 12g Nanocube with only 1 rock that covered the whole bottom of the tank which was covered in GSP. The GSP was flowing and it looked like a field of waving green - it was awesome.

Hey Kenny

The GSP winning is no surprise. The GSP growing down the rock, away from the light, is. Usually it grows up then starts putting out "leafs".

You've seen my chop saw setup. If it will work to seperate these two LMK.

Thanks Brian-

I agree, usually GSP climbs to the light. This one started at the top of the rock so can only go down. I didn't think it would which is why I put the monti on the base of the rock - but, darn if it isn't working its way down. I won't need to chop the rock since the monti was on a frag plug. I can just pluck it off and move it.

Mine were actually touching a couple weeks ago. No damage to either one, but I trimmed back the GSP. It was just the purple mat touching and no polyps, which I think is where the sting comes from. The mat might just grow over it though. I can let it go a little further next time to see what happens. . Both are on my overflow and I am upgrading to a bigger tank soon anyway.
