green star polyps

thats probably why its not growing i dont have much flow at all on it. its been in the tank for like 3 months now and hasent shown any signs of growth.

put a metal halide over it, and point a power head in its general direction and the stuff will grow 1/4 inch every two or three days.

under my PC lights, i would get that kind of growth every month or two.

the more light you have the faster it grows.

I just got one like 3 weeks ago & it is growing like crazy... I agree, just get some flow to it, I only have PCs.

I had a small piece in a part of my tank with no flow and it didn't grow, once I adjusted my power heads, it was getting flow and now it is growing like crazy. I am sure lighting helps but I have little light on mine and it still grows nicely.

It is best to avoid powerheads if possible -- at least ones with strong jets pointed at corals.

Mine get indirect (but strong) flow under halides & T5 actinics.
Watch them though, they can grow over your other corals if left unchecked.

I am deliberately growing mine from one piece of LR (totally covered) to another large piece. But with enough space so that they cannot grow onto other rocks.

Mind you, I can see some frags of it growing on other un-designated rocks. They just appeared from nowhere, I must have fragged it when moving LR around.

Regards
Conor.

Don't want to hijack Kengaroo, but I'd like to pose the hypothetical question. Supposing you ARE able to achieve a high growth rate with flow/lighting changes, what steps can be taken to isolate GSP to prevent them from invading areas where they are unwanted? How would you remove them if they accidentally infest an area that you do not want them in?

no its alright thats acctually a good question i'd also like to know.

i placed them in the middle under the hob filter so there getting enough flow to slightly move around. is that enough or to much?

GSP can grow on the sand and onto the adjacement rock even if there's a gap between them. they've done it in my tank many times. heck, it even started to grow onto my glass. i usually take a razor blade and try to peel off its mat. so far i've been able to keep it under control.

Here's a pic of it attaching itself to my glass. Keep in there's about a 1/2" of sand from the rock it is on and the glass. The cool thing is it's easy to frag once it's on the glass. :D

Yeah, I have a friend that is giving me some, I am going to put it on an island in the middle of the sand so it wont take over my tank. I had that problem with xenia.

Actually it's my 25g Cadlight tank. This stuff grows like a weed. I have to trim/frag it every other month. It usually will cover a quarter size frag disc in about 5 weeks. Here's a FTS:

*sorry for the over exposed photo :P

Thanks Dood! All those frag discs will be transferred to my AP12 once it is done cycling. Right now it looks kinda unnatural with the round discs everywhere.
