Does anyone have or has anyone seen a green torch? I was just in my lfs and he had a green torch - the base tissue around the mouth was a deep green - the tentacles were cream colored with yellow colored tips. Anyone seen any like this ?? It looked really sweet. I just didn't want to buy something that was bleeched or dyed or anything crazy like that.

Lika dis?

Yes like that - the tentacles were not quite that green but it just came in to his store late yesturday. that is a cool looking torch!!

OOOOHHHH aggression.

Patrick...are you going to have an LPS dominated reef? Buy this and you will soon!

Yeh I bought it. It just looked too cool to pass it up. I also got a single head regular colored torch from someone in the chatt group. I think I'll take it to the frag swap in august though. 2 torches would be too much!! Do torches grow fast? And yeh I probably will have an lps dominated reef - with vho's for lighting there's not much else I can keep. The green slimmer frag I got from you (mel) Is growing but does not have the polyp extension like under mh lighting. I am just trying to get the more colorful softies and lps.
How's the new tank set up going mel? How much more do you have to do??

An LPS-dominated tank would be awesome!

The set up is going fine. I still haven't been able to put all four lights on it, but once I get the canopy and stain it, I will be able to. I need to set up my calcium reactor (maybe tonight or tomorrow night). But everything looks great.

My slimer is the only thing I lost. It actually RTNd over the weekend. I was able to save like 2 small frags of it, so I will just regrow it though. Thanks for asking!

Well here is the torch I was asking about. This was taken about 36 hours after it was placed in the tank. You can only see the front head due to the way it is positioned in the tank. It is maybe 2-1/2 inches across, tentacles and all.

that looks nothing like my torh I got. at least I think I got a green torch. I will have to get some pics up on here when we get some batteries for it. I am going to an LPS dominated tank as well. Right now it has a colony of star polyps, some zoas, a leather, and of course the torch.

I have seen several diff morphs on the green torch - I have seen them with green tentacles and green mouth area but this was the first I had seen with the green mouth and brown tentacles. I would like to see a pic of the one you got when you get a chance. I am also going to an LPS dominated tank. I am trying to get some acans and blastos - I also have some leathers, a spaghetti from Mel and a toadstool- What type of leathers do you have?

not sure of the type of leather it is. I got it off of Mel. It is branchy, white/green under actinics. I will get pics up of all my corals when we get the digital camera batteries. Will probablly post pics pf the sump I am working on as well. Is it bad to run just actinics over a tank?
Andy

If you got it from Mel it's the same thing I have - spaghetti leather. It's a pretty cool leather. I think most corals will need more light than just actinics. They need a higher spectrum of light than the actinic provide. What type of lighting do you have? vho, power compacts, or regular output fluorescents?
I would like to see pics of the sump - I am thinking about building one myself.

right now I have a power compact actinic, I did have a 55 watt 10,000k daylight powercompact bulb until I dropped it in the water trying to get the collection cup off of my skimmer. Well I didn't drop it IZ bumped it and it fell in. Oh well. Trying to descide if I wanna replace the end cap that got fried or get all new lighting. My sump will be made out of a 10 gallon tank with my skimmer, some live rock and a fountain pump for my return pump. Using a hang on the back over flow box, and some PVC from home depot.

Andy ~ Replacing the endcap would be a lot cheaper than buying a whole new lighting system... But you'll probably want stronger lighting than 55w for most LPS, so you'll probably need a new lighting system anyways... Unless you're still running your 20g... But I thought I saw somewhere you switched to a larger tank... I'd replace the endcap and keep that for the 20, and then go to a new lighting system for your larger tank...

I would second what Randy said. PC's are good lighting but I think the LPS will be much happier with more watts.
The sump sounds good. I am just trying to find the right tank for under my tank.

I now have a 29 gallon tank up and running. With the actinic and the day light bulb I have 120 watts over the tank. With just the actinics I have 55 watts, the torch seems to be out more with the actinics alone but also maybe b/c they are just getting used to the tank. I think I am going to go with replacing the enc cap. I couldn't believe the price Coral Reef quoted me on a replacement end cap. They said that it would be around 50 bucks for a little end cap. I am going to run past stokes tomorrow and see if they have the end cap or if they can get one. I was looking at some T5 fixtures but they were only going to give me 36 watts. So thats a no. lol.

how much for a frag or two? You going to be at the meeting? What size would you have? My wife would like a small one for her 2.5, and mine would be for the 29. How fast do they grow?
