Green Water

My tank is about 10 months old and is a 10 gallon tank. It has 2 clown fish, 1 crab , live rock and sand. The water is green. Can anyone help me solve this issue.(I need to buy more live rock it only has roughly 2 pounds of it)

algae bloom. a UV light will help with it, but water changes and keeping your nitrates and phosphate levels low will keep it long term clean.

2 clowns in a 10 gallon tank? That is a bit tight. I'd say you are going to have nutrient issues unless you do 50% water changes weekly-biweekly. Clowns like to swim a bit so you should at least have a 30 gallon tank for the 2 of them, 20 gallons is the minimum for 1.

I would definitely get more live rock. 2lbs is almost nothing. Get at least 10lbs, and you should be much better off. What else are you using for filtration and water movement? What lights and how long are they on? Usually I would say that a hob filter is a bad idea, but with 2lbs of LR in a 10 gallon, I hope you have one. When you get more LR, replace the filter with a decent powerhead that won't over power your tank. Also, upgrade ASAP, 10 gallons is too small. More volume would be much more stable and better for your fish.

Yeah, I am getting live rock soon. SO instead of a hang on back filter, what do you recommend me to get? And what do you think about an in tank refuge? Thank you!

Its not an in tank refugium unless you let the algae take over. I like having macro algae growing in my tanks cause I think it looks cool. Mine is also in my sump, but if I got my hands on some display worthy stuff I would not be opposed to putting it in the display tank.

The rock will do the filtering for you, and it will go a much better job at it. The only thing that the hob filter can do is hold carbon and a mechanical filter. I see no reason for either in your tank, water changes are going to do more and be easier. Just change out 2 gallons every week or two.

For the powerhead, you want one that moves 100-300 gph. That will give you between 10 and 30 times turnover per hour. Your fish will thank you for it. A second one should be added when the tank is upgraded to a larger one. The 29 gallon tank is really nice, you should look into your options beyond that 10gal. That's more like a quarantine tank than a display tank.
