1-16-07, 1:30 AM, 70.5 days post hatch - I noticed that some of the GBG's were pale in color (especially the red eye stripes) this evening, but otherwise darting about, eating food, acting as normal. Considering there are 60 or so fish (when you include the 30+ day old Perc Juvies) in the 10 gallon tank, I figured what the heck and did a water test. Here's what I found:
Temp - 80.3
Specific Gravity / Salinity - 1.0245 / 32 ppt
pH - 8.2
Total Alkalinity - 6 meq/L
Free Ammonia - 0 ppm
Nitrite - 2.5 ppm ("aha"!)
Nitrate - < 1 ppm
So...they're getting a water change (big surprise!) Brought the tank down to 5 gallons and am adding at least 2.5 gallons tonight. I'm running terribly low on salt (but more is on the way) so they'll probably get another water change as soon as the salt arrives (or if things get worse, I'll run out and get salt locally!)
That's the news...I was finding it curious that I had stopped having problems with the ammonia alert thing rising off "safe" for the last week or two...now I now what's going on!
FWIW,
Matt
