Greenbank has some nice stuff

Just got back from Greenbank Aquarium and they had some nice stuff in large quantities: Assorted snails-1.99, blue leg reef hermits-1.00, lots of Zoo rock in different colors, some nice Atlantic Anenomes, other corals.

Yes but what are their prices? Last time I was there a small 4"piece of ordinary zoos were about $80.

I haven't gone back in there for ages because of their prices. But have they gone down? I don't particularly like the atmosphere of that store, but if the prices are better.

I don't want to say much but I have worked with the same wholesaler as they do and I know the prices aren't expensive. But every store has different expenses to figure in, I just think he could use to lower his coral prices.

I went in over the weekend... the prices werent tooo bad, but were just slightly higher than what I was willing to pay.
they did have some really cool zoos and anenomes and what not... he wanted about $25 for about a frag plug size of zoos~10-20 polyps-- reasonable but not a huge deal IMO, especially with the TPP sale coming up. they had some smaller frag pieces on rubble but wouldnt go less than $25 for them so I had to pass.... I think Bill is a really nice guy but I have to agree that the overall atmosphere of the store has somethign to be desired-- He has had a line of empty tanks for what seems to be a few years to me... I always get the impression that he is torn between taking the store to the next level or shutting it down and moving to florida.... If he set the other tanks up, kept the priceing consistent, and kept his tanks stocked more I would probably go there more frequently.... I think of the LFSs in Delaware Bills has the most potential... JMHO

I beleive I heard him say he would be getting a fish shipment in tommorow... but might want to call before going...

I agree with your HO as well as your other observations ... definate potential ...

The store has a little bit of potential. I'd like to see him find a wholesaler that has captive bred fish though.

The one main draw back that makes me hate going in their is his vulgarity. Everytime I have been in that store I hear him cussing someone to something out. From a customer to an employee ((which cussing out either is totally uncalled for)) even infront of children.
And I agree I've seen those empty tanks all the time, I remember him saying a year ago he was going to expand the store and add more tanks, but they are still there empty. Not really helping him sell more fish if they are empty.

Not all people are prim and proper all the time , the knowledge that bill has totally kills all other lfs `s in the area . as for the prices look at the quality of the pieces you get from bill they are usually loaded . As for the tanks yes its been over 2 years since bill ,Jim ,and I built the stands . He has a huge amount of money tied up in what is sitting there and there is a huge amount of money needed to finish it . Do you remember how much it cost you to set up your tank RIGHT ? it ain't cheap !! that is almost a thousand gallons sitting there . If you had a store that you owned and had to tend to it 10-8 every day and try to keep the systems healthy you might say, that this is for the birds im leaving too.. I have spent many nights working with bill from 8pm till 5 am . Bill is not a owner that I would bash that man cares about what he does .. would you rather another tolls store atmosphere . supporting your local guy is the way to get better products .If you talk to bill and tell him what you want he will try his hardest to get it for you . why buy on line or drive all the way to tfp to find out bill has the same things ?You would pay the extra 10 + bucks to drive to tfp and pay taxes? that to me is crazy not to mention your time to get there and back .. Add it up !what's your time worth to you ?
What I have seen of the reef community here is a lot of hands out and open for frags from other reefers (for free) . That takes a toll on all store owners in the area . You spend a couple thousand setting up your tanks and then complain about 60 bucks for a nice coral .. lol .. lol ..

true, the store tank mods are going very slow. but that's just bill. I don't seem to work much faster myself ,, uh , well, actually, I don't even work any more. about this time last year i was taking bets that the new plexi tanks on the wall would be up and running by income tax time this year. looks like i will loose that bet.... again.. same bet a couple years back on the coral tanks. lost that one too.

Oh well.... What can we do?

prices corner. off kirkwood highway at 141. if you know where the Sears store is there, look to the Pep Boys across the street. it's on the road and little plaza behind the Pep boys. just drive thru and behind the pepboys and you will see it .

I don't drive by that way that often, just because it's not near anything else I usually visit accept the vets. Last time I as there he was just about out of live stock, day before a huge shipment of course.
He seems to know a good bit about stuff. I think the manager at "Just fish" knows her stuff as well. She will admit when she doesn't know as well which I appreciate greatly.

Greenbank never seems to have any kind of saltwater fish selection. a few damsels and clowns, but nothing else regularly in stock. if your looking to purchase anything besides "tank starters", you have to go to Just Fish

i personally drive up to That Fish Place in lancaster when i want to pick up a new specimen. its worth the $5 - $7 in gas. Theyre selection is awesome, pricing is usually better too... not to mention they actually have warrenties on their livestock, unlike Just Fish

IwannaClarion, this is your first post? Your in Newark? Welcome. I'm about to get a purple tang for my 75 how do you like yours? What has it been eating?

Jon

yeah, first post. i believe youve met my younger brother. he bought a 30gal tank off you about a week ago. hes also been helping me get rid of some of my things under his screenname

my purple tang eats anything and everything. hes an absolute pig. his primary diet consists of emerald entree soaked in boyds vitachem and selcon (the tang currently has HLLE... looks as though a slug crawled down his upper body on both sides and left a greyish slime trail). sometimes i add small amounts of mysis shrimp or marine cuisine to his feeding. in between meals, i always have a fresh algae sheet for him to "graze" on. the tang even attempts to eat the chopped clam/shrimp/squid that i feed the Maculosus angel that is in the same tank
