Hello RC!

I am a 28 year old scuba diver from Indianapolis, IN. I have had freshwater tanks for over 10 years, and I finally got bored! I recently tore down my 55 bowfront and I'm in the process of making it a FOWLR system. As I type I am patiently waiting for my LS to settle to the bottom so I can see the live rock that I spend hours arranging last night! I already have a renewed excitement for my aquarium that I haven't had in years!

Congratulations, and don't be intimidated by corals, there are many corals that you can add to your FOWLR system that are real easy to keep, mushrooms for example, very colorful and you dont need a lot of lighting either. I am not trying to push anything on you that you may not be comfortable with, but I just dont want you to not go reef out of fear, just take your time and ask lots of questions.

I have about 50ish pounds of LR that I have now setup in my 55 bowfront tank now for about a week. Should I wait a month or so before adding any fish or I am wondering if I should start with a couple cheapies like damsels to help level out the water.

Nope, no livestock until the tank has completely cycled. Besides, damnsels are very territorial and get extremely aggresive and are a PITA to catch when you want them gone. And you will want them gone eventually.

Get yourself test kits for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate to keep an eye on your levels. After all your levels have zero'd out, you can start stocking the tank. Most folks start with a clean-up crew to help clean up the dead junk on the rocks. While you're waiting for the tank to complete it's cycle, spend the time reading through all the articles that are stickied at the top of this forum, and read up on the care requirements of the fish you plan on keeping.
