Hi everyone,

Hi Jack,
I just started my tank as well. Plan to do 2 more bigger tanks next week. I guess we all start with small nano......

Just watch out when you get many tanks.
It's a pain to cool one tank in the summer.

Me, I have 3 tanks to cool this summer and am becoming VERY worried!

Thanks for the invitation but I already have plan for tomorrow.
When is the next meeting and what time ? I love to learn more about this hobby.

BTW I just bought a bag of salt and a hydrometer from PETCO on
the way home this evening. Is this normal the water get very
cloudy after adding salt, I have never done salt water before. That was not much help at PETCO.

Jackyfish,

Depending on the salt, it may be very cloudy after adding salt. I mix my salt in a separate container before putting it in my tank. The water usually mix for 24 hours prior to being used. Once you have fish and corals, ever mix your salt in the actually aquarium. BTW - what brand of salt did you purchase. Also - hydrometers can be very inaccurate. You might want to calibrate it with someone who has a refractometer.

Welcome the hobby and MARS. There is a wealth of information, (and opinions) here. Weed through the good stuff and have a great time doing it.:)

Hi everyone,

Water finally got clear up this morning, and is reading at
1.020 on the hydrometer. Do I need to add more salt ?
I am planing to add sand and rock into it this weekend,
what should I add first ? and how much do I need for a
29 gal tank ? Thanks

Jack

1.025-1.026 is what most of us keep our tank at.

Add sand first and then rocks. I don't know how much sand you need. However, for rocks, I usually start off with 1lb per gallon. Some people go with 1.5-2lbs per gallon. IME, 2lbs per gallon is a lot of rocks. Also - remember that later on, you may be adding more rocks when you purchase frags or colonies. The amount of rock you add is purely personal preference.

Finally the water is good to go, I am planing to add sand and
rock tomorrow. Are there any good fish stores in Sac that I can
check out ? There is no fish store in here where I live.
