grey ywg - female?

Hi guys,

I currently have a grey ywg that is paired with a tiger pistol. When I bought the ywg in October, the lfs told me that he/she would eventually turn yellow. Obviously, this has not happened. I seem to find conflicting information online regarding what this means for the sex of the fish. Seems like most people say it is most likely female but not a guarantee.

I am asking because I am building a larger tank and would like to pair it with a yellow male ywg if possible. I have read that members of the same sex will likely fight to the death. Obviously, I don't want this to happen. So what do you think? Is it reasonable to add a yellow guy once I have the new tank set up?

Thanks

I've never bought into the sex being related to colour thing. I've seen plenty of "pairs" which were either both grey or both yellow and also fish that have gone back and forth in colour. There are also articles where the males (proved by witnessed breeding) was grey.
Many gobies have the ability to change sex both ways but I'm unsure if this is the same in these. I'd try adding a smaller individual and see what happens. If you tank is big enough and you have enough hiding places I wouldn't be that worried about trying to pair them. I've seen plenty of random placed together at wholesalers without much cover and you only saw the odd split fin or gaping mouth display.
