Grinding noise from MP10 Dry Side

I have an MP10 ES which I have had a couple years now but never used it. About 6 months ago, I set up a small 20 gallon tank as a holding tank and placed the MP10 on one end. This week the dry side has started making a grinding noise and almost sounds as if an internal bearing is going bad. The noise is loud enough that you can't hear the TV in that room. If I speed the pump up, the noise increases. I have verified that it is not the wet side nor the positioning of the wet side. I emailed Eco Tech Customer Service and got this reply:

We do not service the dryside assemblies.

A replacement unit can be purchased at our parts store.

Not what I would have expected to hear from a top notch company. These little buggers are expensive and should last a lot longer than this one did. My luck, I would spend over $100 on a new dry side and the day after the warranty expires, the dry side will EXPIRE. I have several MP40's and never had a problem with any of them. Now, a little powerhead that I use for a small holding tank craps out after 6 months use and cost > $100 to fix? Not a happy camper with Eco Tech today...

Well since it is not under warranty it looks to be a great candidate for a diy bearing replacement. If you decide not to I would be interested in buying it to do just that. Mine just crapped out with the same symptoms but luckily it is my newest one and still under warranty.

Sorry to hear about your mp10 and more so that ecotech couldn't help you. They have been great for me on a problematic radion, so I'm surprised by your situation. Ive to 2 mp10s running for 3 yrs now, hope they keep chugging.
