Group Buy: Critters/Clean-up crew from reeftopia

I am personally organizing another group buy for cleanup critters from Reeftopia. I spoke with Paul, who is not going to be bringing back any sizable quantities of cleanup crew, so I'm going ahead with this order. I ran one of these about 6 months ago and all who participated were very happy. I do not recall any casualties.

I plan on placing the order this Friday, February 1st, for delivery next Tuesday, February 5th if all goes as planned.

Prices for the bulk items I am already ordering will be as follows and include pickup the day of the shipment at my office (Howe and Fair Oaks). Other common items are also listed below with non-quantity discount prices:

Snails
20 Turbo Snails - $10
10 Nassarius vibex - $8
6 Nerite Snail - $12

Crabs
1 Emerald Crab - $5
1 Scarlett Reef Hermit - $4
10 Small Blue Leg Hermit - $4

Specialty Crabs
1 Sally Lightfoot Crab - $7.50
1 Porcelain Crab - $6
1 Horseshoe Crab - $7.50

Other
1 Peppermint Shrimp - $4
1 Lettuce Nudibranch - $7

Disclaimers and fine print
I have rounded up prices to the nearest dollar for simplicity. When the bill is paid and money is collected, any money remaining will be donated to MARS. If you commit to buying, I expect you to show up. I will be fronting the money for this and do not expect advance payment. If you cannot make it at the last minute, please arrange for someone else to pickup your stuff, or call me and I will do my best to acclimate and hold your critters in a QT tank. I will not be responsible for casualties if I hold your critters for you. In the event that the GB reaches additional quantity discounts I will post a follow-up with the new prices and contact buyers to adjust the amount due. I must have final orders by 9am Friday morning, February 1st.

Additional items are available from reeftopia, and you can order anything from their site for the normal prices. The benefit of this group buy is free shipping, and quantity discounts.

Support the local economy.

Also, those nassarius vibex snails are not even sold in the aquarium trade -- those are "I bought a thousand 1 month ago on eBay from some kid that plucked them out of the ocean on the east coast and for some reason I can't find any."

bristlew0rm - These are from diver in Florida. They harvest and ship directly. I'm not sure what exactly you are saying. I have all of these snails in my tank from Reeftopia from a previous group buy. Plus, I've not had any DOA experiences from Reeftopia, if you read my post.

All - I actually prefer going diver direct, because I know what I'm getting. No offense, but everyone jumped on me last time and top me to order from these guys. I was super happy with them. If you want to buy from someone else, please do, but I'm going to go ahead with my order.

Chris - I'll give you a ring this evening.

Ok. It used to be popular on eBay for folks to sell coldwater snails and market them as n. vibex, when in fact they were something else. Sounds like you're buying real tropical snails.

Nassarius snails not sold on the aquarium trade? There are two major types I commonly see in the trade, and personally, one of my favorite types of snails. There are the n. vibex, and n. distortus - the latter being a larger version (about an inch) as compared to the 1/2 size of the the n. vibex.

I hear you with people selling stuff under the wrong name to make a quick buck, but I do think the folks at reeftopia run a decent operation and I have heard nothing but good things about them.

Good luck Pete with the group buy!

This is the main reason that I didn't join up with Mars, when there is a meeting...Let's go to all the LFS and hit them up for stuffs, Yeah yeah we support them! This store that store are nice because they give us all this and that, but let's do a group buy on some axx wipe because we can save $2 a roll.
Correct me if I am wrong.

This is coming from me personally, and not me as a MARS board member, if that is possible to do (probably not).

YOU ARE WAY OUT OF LINE!!!

I don't appreciate the language or trashing my thread. I support the local fish stores. I buy all my fish from LFS, I buy frags from LFS, I even try to buy dry goods from the LFS if they can get even CLOSE to the price online. I buy my tanks from LFS. I buy my test kits at LFS.

I WANT a cleanup crew harvested directly from the ocean in a sustainable manner. I HAVE a relationship with reeftopia based upon previous business and trust them for providing good quality livestock and standing behind their product.

I WILL NOT blindly buy products from the LFS just because they are local. I think that being responsible in how we acquire our livestock is important and most LFS get their cleanup crews from a wholesaler who gets it from who knows where.

I suggest you stay out of my thread.

Pete:

Don't feed the idiot troll. The club is better w/o Leaky Tank.
Leaky Tank...you are way out of line....don't make assumptions about the reefers in the club if you don't know us.

I truly appreciate the fact that Pete is offering to allow others into his PERSONAL order to help people save on shipping costs. This is not a CLUB order, this is Pete placing an order for a few things that he needs personally, and allowing others to benefit by combining their orders with his. I honestly don't see what the problems is. In fact, I see this as an example of Pete's willingness to go out of his way to help his fellow reefers.

As far as the LFS situation goes, I don't know about you guys, but when I go to a local store they don't always have exactly what I'm looking for. So, by necessity I'm often forced to look outside of our immediate area to fulfill my tanks needs. I'm all for supporting our LFS's, but not at the expense of my tanks needs and/or requirements. If I can't find something locally I fail to see how looking elsewhere is a swipe at our local economy.

That being said, Pete I'd like to order the following:

1 - 20 Turbo Snails @ $10
1 - 10 Nassarius vibex @ $8
1 - 10 Small Blue Leg Hermit @ $4

Thanks Pete!
