grow out tanks

I was just wandering if anyone has ever seen any of the big commercial companies grow out tanks? If so what are they using, Im guessing its not your normal 10-20g tank? What about their brood stock tanks.

I guess my question should be what are the big commercial guys using for their breeding,larval and grow out set up.

Can't speak for all places, but a lot use the large looking horse water tanks.

Thanks , that's kind of what I thought. I'm pretty new at this but I do have a few breeding pairs and babies in a grow out tank now. I am planning on buying a few more breeding pair but my goal is to be able to produce about 500-1000 a month. Unfortunately I am running out of tanks now to raise these guys in.

go on craigslist and find a 125 gallon tank for really cheap, and then divide it into x amount of sections with some glass and silicone

BRT's sure, but not your typical oblong horse trough.

Be careful which BRT you get though. In my research I have read that most of the BRT's are made of a blend of plastic and rubber. Make sure you get the ones that are made out of just plastic.

Sorry its taken me so long to come back to this thread. Thanks for the replies though.

I have a pair of tomato/cinnamon that lay HUGE nests and two pair of O. clowns that also lay vary large nests and a pair of true percs.

As of today I have two 10 gallon tanks with eggs right now from the tomato/cinnamon and another 10 gallon with eggs from the Oc clowns. both sets of eggs are about 6-700 eggs. I also have 4 other 10g tanks with well over 100 in each tank.

My oldest fish is a single tomato/cinnamon that made it through all of my horrible mistakes. Since then my hatches have been really high and I have been able to keep a large number past the first week.

I just moved about 75 today from the larval tank to a grow out tank and not a single one was miss bared, so I think my water quality is on the right track.

So ya I'm still really new at this but with 5 breeding pair I am running out of room quick, so unfortunately I might not be able to hatch every batch, until I figure something else out.

Yeah, watch out for blends or ones that used recycled plastic. You want virgin plastic.

The heavy gauge black plastic is what I use.

Sorry for the delay in responding, I was taking my finals at Indiana University, and now my brain is mush!

I use these (photo) for my horse. My brother uses them for cattle (calf). The take a beating better.
