Growing coral on the wall of the tank

I have seen people's tanks were there were different assortment of zoo's growing on the back wall of the tank.

How would one go about doing this? Is there any specific type of coral that grows faster than others or is there any specific type of technique to get it to grow on the glass?

I have seen xenia growing all over tanks and overflows, but personally havent seen anything else. I don't know if glass or acrylic would be better for this. But i would think if you can glue a coral to the tank and have it stay there, it should be able to grow.

i would guess that if you have enough coraline algae on the wall, something will stick to it since the surface is rough.

I've got Green star polyps growing on my overflow. I just took a patch from my rock and glued it to the overflow.

My green star polyp is climbing my overflow's as well, its almost all the way up and wont stop growing. It will have to stop going up eventually or it'll run out of whater.

That's it. It was the size of a quarter. Now it covers most of the overflow. BTW I used Super glue gel.

My green stars will cling to any surface I can pin them to temporarily. It helps if it is not entirely smooth like glass (lots of coraline). Also, xenia is another coral that very easily climbs up the walls if put in proximity with it.

I've got some zoo's that are growing on my back glass as well as a powercord for one of my powerheads. i didn't do anything other than place the rock next to them and mother nature did the rest.

I've been thinking about using zoos for this, any idea how you'd go about getting them out if you upgraded to a bigger tank? I'd had to kill/waste an entire tank wall of zoos.

Just scrape them off and glue them to a rock.

As I stated, mine just stared growing on the glass, no coraline or anything else on it. They will grow either indivdually or in a mat. Just take a razorblade and scrape at the glass and they should come off.

and that doesnt bother them? scraping at thier base with a razor? I could see with the rubbery matt GSP has, but zoos seem more..delicate.

I have zoos going up my overflow as well, they jumped over from a rock. I guess I'd have to peel them off somehow if I moved the tank, I've gotten to where I don't worry too much about that. I've buried rocks to kill xenia, gsp and other encroaching corals, and I don't really feel too bad about it if they're being pesky to my other corals.

I've scrapped more than a few of them from rocks to glue as frags and they recovered just fine.

I have seen a lot of different things that people purposely (and sometimes accidently) start growing on their walls and overflows. I've seen Montipora capricornus, Acropora species, Gren Star Polyps, Pom Pom Xenia, Pulsing Xenia, Mushrooms, Ricordias, Yellow Polyps, and Zoanthids. Of them all, I would have to say the monti caps for shape, the pom pom xenia for movement, and ricordia for color are my favorites.
