Growth of SPS (Lighting)

I'm sure this has already been asked and discussed, however I would like to know.

What provides best growth and color ? T5 HO Halide or LEDs?

What are your experiences.

IME, the best growth and color have been with MH with VHO supplementation. That's not to say that LEDs or T5's don't work but nothing has beaten that combo for me.

I've always been a Halide guy. This will be my first go with just T5's

Light is a huge factor don't get me wrong but you could spend $5,000 on lighting and never see color, growth or polyp. I've seen LED stunners, MH beauties and T-5 works of art. It's all about proper. Care. Good luck to any SPS keeper

+1 i still consider myself a noob because i am LOL. when i started i thought lights,lights,lights.. Now i realize that to me water chemistry is #1 followed by flow then light.... but thats just me lol

It is not all about any one thing. You can also have awesome and stable water parameters and have a horrible tank with bad lighting.

For me, I want my lighting to be best of breed and as static as possible, so I am a HQI guy - rock solid performance. Chasing the variables with water parameters and inhabitants are hard enough without chasing another variable in lighting.

I agree it is not all about one thing but I did not want my tank to be static, that is why I left Radiums for LEDs. I always recommend looking at other tanks, see what works for you.

Lights water chem and water flow = happy acro
IMO MH + vho can't go wrong with that combo
