whats the avg growth rate of acropora and hydnophora also montipora ( plating type)

in inches per month. or mm what ever floats your boat

i heard some say hydnophora is the fastest grower of the three. but how fast is fast. im getting about 1/6 an inch a week on a few of the hydnos branches. is that slow or is that fast * seems to be slowing down with time

FWIW I've found my sps grow in spurts and these spurts seem to coincide with when my parameters are as close to natural sea water. Alk not too high or too low. Some of my corals on occaision grow over 1/4" per week but this is NOT the norm. I'd say it depends a lot on the species thats for sure. I've got a digitata that hasn't grown hardly at all in 6mos. One of my milli's didn't grow for a long time and then all of the sudden grew like a freaking weed for a month or so and grew over 1.5" The best way to notice growth is to take pictures of your corals once every month or so.

Try to keep your parameters as close to natural sea water too. Try to keep temp swings to a minimum too.

Good luck!
Chris

temp is always winging between 77 and79
( have a chiller that kicks on at 79 and off at 77. it does this every few hours)

I'm by no means an expert but I think a 2 degree swing especially every few hours is a pretty wicked shift in temperature.. I'd try to keep the temp swing in 24hrs < 1 degree. I've got an aquacontroller that logs my temperature and I have less than 1 degree throughout the day. I just use fans controlled by the ACIII. No chiller. My temp fluctuates between 80 and 80.5

Your temp is not high but I think the swing is worse..

yeah. its the controller that jbj has built in. it turn on at +1 and off at -1 from the set.. nothing i can do
