My new yellow clown goby has wierd growths all over him. they are raised bumps on the fins and body of random sizes. I don't think it's ich because they are yellow, not white. he is a dark, almost orange shade of yellow and the growhs are more of a lemon color. on the fins, they just look like spots, on the body it is quite visibly raised. He's eating ok and swimming around.
I can't get a picture, sorry!
any thoughts? i'm really concerned and need to know what it is/how to treat ASAP!
thany you so much guys!!!

Lympho should be white & cottony, so this sounds more like a bacterial infection. In-tank treatment would involve WCs (shouldn't be too hard in a 2.5 gal), and soaking fish food in vitamins (Selcon, Zoecon, Vita-chem). If you can QT, you could treat with antibiotics (i.e. Furan-2). Both options have their share of risks & rewards being you are dealing with a fish so small.

Update: this stuff is popping up really fast! they look like pimples. when i got him on thursday evening i noticed a few specks on fins. last night there were a few lumps, and this morning there are over 14 that I can see!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

watched gill movement/breathing. it's about 45/minute. seems very relaxed.Loking at him directly under the light it is white! like a pimple. does this mean it is ick? Help!

Google "Marine Ich" click images and you'll see lots of pics to compare. Most of what you see will be fish covered with ich, just compare the individual spots. Is the fish scratching on rock, etc?

Well, i can't really tell from those pictures. Mostly they show large, blue fish so there is plently of contrast and the spots look flat. Because my fish is so tiny, the bumps look really raised/pimply. No scratching, but he is kinda spazzy sometimes.
I took him back to the store so they could look at it and they said it was probably ich. I traded him back for some mushroom coral, cheato algae, and a margarita snail. I'm really sad...:(. He was so cute and friendly!
Oh, well. I'm going to wait a month or so before i try again with a new one.
The lfs girl said that ALL fish carry ich, but it is just dormant until the fish gets stressed or someting. Is this true???
Thank you!

All fish have ich is a huge myth, read through the stickies above and understand the lifecycle of the parasite. Coral and inverts can carry the parasite also. You must wait ten or more weeks after the last piece of livestock is added then set up a small quarantine tank for the new fish. Once fish are added all new coral and inverts must be isolated from fish for ten weeks before they are added.

So, inverts carry it, but they can't actually get ick can they?
I read about the ick lifecycle so when she said all fish were carriers that totally threw me off! myth huh?
thanks!

The girl at the lfs is typical of why so many lfs are folding and online stores are thriving. Get a couple of good books, from good authors and use forums like this. A LFS is a terrible place to get advice. There isn't really a reason to take a fish back, everyone should have a QT/HT and know how to use it. Ich is not hard to cure in a QT/HT.

Too late to edit. Nothing wrong with returning a fish that has a guarentee. But, sadly, many/most of these fish are just flushed.

That's too bad. This is a really reputable fish store too, but I guess there are always the newbies too right?

I had the same problem with a coral goby a few years ago and have seen it many times since then. The way its showing sounds the same which isn't ich and i couldn't get a proper answer but it was theorised that it is stress related. I treated mine for a bacterial infection and it did seem to remove the growths but where they were was still discoloured and eventually i lost it.
Hope your pulls through.
