GRRR , where is the problem here ? (Algae Issue )

I am battling it right now also even after no sign of it since the tank was setup. It started showing up on the tips of my pink birds nest and it confuses the heck out of me.

I am using ro/di water from a TY III unit , coral life UV , 10g water changes a week ( 100 gallon tank 15 more in the fuge ) , the skimmer running full bore , rinsing the filter sock every two days, and a DIY panel filter getting the last of it before coming back to the tank from the sump.

Tank temps are around 80 and normal to less feedings. Everything looks awesome in the tank except this.

Flow has even been increased to this coral to help clear it but just not looking like it is helping.

What kind of algae?

What is your alk and PO4? PO4 is hard to measure (just saw a photometer for sale to the general reefing public, though). Rocks can store up PO4 and then leach it back out. Also look for detritus build ups around the tank and sump.

If you're getting algae on the tips of only the bird's nest, is it possible that you're giving it too much flow?

The insides of them frequently turn white because they get little flow as a result of the way the things grow. I've only ever had problems with the tips when, a) the coral grew so big it grew into the stream of a powerhead, or b) my galaxia hit it with some sweepers.

Algae seems to love dead coral skeleton, so if you're killing the tips with flow, algae will frequently follow right behind. Just a thought. I can't tell from your post if you've recently increased flow to it to solve the problem or if you did that before you had the problem.

yes I did increase the flow to the coral. I will try to move it and see if it improves and I also thinking of removing the majority of the chateo from the fuge and giving it a good cleaning.
