GSM Pairing Advice....

I have a small (1 1/2") GSM that was part of a pair. The other one died about 9 months ago for no apparent reason, just stopped eating and was gone in 2 days. I have considered pairing him any number of times, but know its always hit and miss. Anyone have any experience or advice on the best method of introduction of another??

was it the larger or smaller of the two? larger ones are female. so which ever it was buy the other as drastically as possible. If it was larger buy as small as possible if it was smaller buy as large as possible if they were same size buy large as possible. longer you wait the more domminent and claming it will be to the tank. so if your gonna do it, do it.

The one that died was about twice this ones size at the time. A local guy is selling a 5" GSM so perhaps that is what I should go for. Can't get much larger than that ;)

Man thats huge!! I'd get it just to have one that big! since yours was the smaller one it should work out good

That is what I am thinking, or hoping at least. If not, I can always add the big one to my display. That should curb my Fiji Chromis of his bully tactics. For a supposedly docile species, that Chromis has caused two deaths, a lawn mower blenny and pipe. One day I will catch him though and off to the 29 he goes or stick a bigger bully in there and show him the true meaning of the word.

I too had to remove chromis. i had three the first swam into the net the other two took two months to catch i finally got them at night with the flashlight in the eyes and net behind the back trick. good luck!

Yeah he comes up to feed when I drop flake in, so the feeding with a net in there for a few days trick should work on him.... I hope.

thats what worked on my first but when the others saw it happen they werent having it. It could go either way. and heres another good luck cause you may need it.

Thanks, that is what i will do... I know the large one is a female, the guy who I am getting it from says she lays eggs. Problem is, my little was male from the previous pairing, but its been 9 months by itself. How can I be certain he hasn't changed a she??
