Hello All,
As relatively new aquarium enthusiast (more than a year less than a decade) I am excited to announce what I believe to be a very lucky situation. I have a 6 month old 40 gal, with a nice rock formation as well as come corals. Its not that important but I will mention that i have a sailfin tang as well as a firefish, blood shrimp, riccordia, some zoos and frogspawn in this system.
OK> So a few weeks ago my fiance and i were at our LFS and she instantly fell in love with this mature GSM. She had to have it, I like its personality so i did some research and made the purchase, along with a Beautiful health rose bubble tip anemone. We were exstatic that this hyperactive maroon took to the bubble immediately and was very pleased with his new home. My GSM is about 4 inches and is a deep red/maroon color. (ok duh)
Well lets get to the interesting part. A few days ago I was leaving my LFS (weekly water change) when I saw a man getting out of his car with a fish in a bag. I, being maybe a bit to outgoing proceeded to question this guy what it was, and when he said it was a maroon I got excited and asked him what he would take for it. He said 10, i had 6 and he took the cash. It wasnt until i was on the way home that i actually examined the fish and say that instead of having gold stripes borded with a white line, it actually had white stripes with black borderline and was much more red. - So, realized i had a WSM. I THINK- because a GSM stripes are white until a year?Well, look at the pcs-
I have a spare tank that i was going to put the little guy in ( i dint want to kill him by putting him in with my big aggressive GSM) but i figured, what the heck they are just Variations of the same species, right? not technically putting a different type of clown the her (which would usually end in death to the other of course)
To my surprise, in no less than a half an hour the male WSM began showing sighns of submissoin. For days he would quiver to the females touch. The "odd couple" (or is it?) is now inseparable. They host the rose bubble, happily together, and are now constantly picking at the LR around the RBT. Does this mean they could actually mate? Would the offspring be viable?
Of course i have been scouring online forums and books at my LL. I have not had any luck finding much information on cross variational breeding with maroons. I put a piece of porceline near the anenome, and they seem to be bitimg at it frequently now. Keep in mind these fish have been together less than 2 weeks! lol i feel like i have finally gotten some of that "beginners luck" i always her about.
What do i do next? Can it be done? I really want to see a pic of a juv or mature gsm X wsm- IS THIS A WSM? Or young GSM?
how can i upload pics to my thread?
Thanks all,
