GSP closed and now won't open

I bought a really nice piece of GSP that is neon green polyp and fringes which looked really nice after a few days when it opened up but after that day it closed and won't open again.

It has been about a few weeks now and once and a while I see a little neon green nub peeking out but only like three compared to the 5x3" rock that is covered. Yesterday I got one polyp to open but that was it.

The tank is a NC12g
70w MH 2x18w actinics pc
maxi-jet 900
mh on for about 6hrs and actinics/moonlights on for 8-9hrs
calcium 420ppm
hardness 300-320 ppm
pH 8.1-8.2
Nitrates is about zero along with the rest of the nitrogen readings
Salinity 1.022

The GSP is layed against the back wall which is on the edge of direct MH lighting and on the opposited side of the hydor-flo output.

any help?

Do you have an alkalinity value in DKH or Meq/L? Your salinity is low. I would slowly bump it up with salt water top off to 1.026. From my experience they do like flow, so you might try and get some flow to it or move it near the powerhead. If there is anything irritating it, such as a snail, crab, human hand, etc they will close up. Let us know how it goes. :)

The alk is about 300ppms

I have read on other forums that zoanthids fair well in lower salinity so I kept the tank a bit on the low side but I will try and raise it to see how everyone does.

The GSP is in a 12g nano and there is a Maxi-jet900 for the return pump with a hydor-flo which pushes circulation throughout the tank and it being right under the overflow it seems as it's getting a decent amount of flow.

I have left it alone for a few weeks now thinking that it was me bothering it but other then that no one is messing with it.

Thanks for the reply.

my salinity is 1.026 and my zoas are doing amazing, color and growth so you should be fine to raise the salinity. about a month ago i noticed the salinity in my water change water was low and didnt realize it until stuff stopped opening and when i tested the water, the salinity was at .023 and the only thing that stayed closed was the gsp so check the salinity and make sure it has lots of flow.

give it some time it's normal for GSP to close and not to be open up for a while. Make sure there is enough flow to keep the algea/debris from forming on top. It will open up again.

i had a mat of gsp that was covered with caulerpa for 6-8 months and when i took the algae off it opened back up in week after being dormant for that long.
