So this GSP has been taking over this rock and opening every day for the past 1-2 months. However, suddenly it just stays closed the past 3 days. I have blown it off with a turkey baster, but still not opening.

Nitrates are under 5ppm. I have read this is sometimes the issue. Other suggestions?

PH..... Salinity....water flow change??? Did you change the lighting schedule or intensity.

Great questions. Parameters below. I did add some supplemental lighting strips (ReefBars) a little over a week ago. But it isn't that dramatic of a change, and they did great under it for awhile before this started.

PH: 8
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: under 5
Phosphate: .1-.2
Salinity: 1.026
CA: 400-420
ALK: 9.5

I only ask because I myself have a nice size colony and I'm having the same problem...my salinity was really low due to the fact my refractometer wasn't calibrated corectly...I'm in the process of bringing it up slowly over the course of a few days...some of my guys started coming back out but most of them are still closed..it's frustrating..had the LFS check my water for me..Calc was low at 360 so I started dosing kalk + 2 from brightwell aquatics in my ATO. Other than that there have been no changes in my system that I have made other than a new 3k gyre.

I'd try going without the additional lighting for a couple days and see what happens good luck.

GSP is very hardy.
Sometimes even after first acclimated the GSP will retract in an effort to spread.
But not more than 5 days maximum, otherwise temp, salinity, or other is way out.
Check both, if ok then just give them a few days with no changes

Above, so true.
You wish them to extend now, in a year, you may wish them to go away.......

Ha. I did try to plan for this by getting them on a center rock detached from all others. But it sounds like a they will just go over the sand and onto the next rock. Time will tell.

That's exactly what you do, isolation makes easier to control, I will take quite some time.
