it's been my experience they turn brown with lighting issues and/or elevated nutrients in the water. if your bulbs are still acceptable, how's water quality?

i have to test again tonight to find out but last time i tested everything was zero but i only did the basic three pluse ph and phospates and they were ok but i will do every thing tonight

I'm always a bit skeptical when someone says their tank is all 0s, it's allot of work to keep a system below 0.02 PO4 and a couple ppm NO3

well i have a red sea test kit for NO2, NH3, NO3 and sea test for PO4 and they all said zero the last time i checked i didn't get a chance to check it again going to try to do the test today my tank is a 55 gal perfecto tank with about 80lbs live rockand a 4 gal fuge its been up and running for about 2 years everything seams to be happy and i try not toover feed

i don't care for the Red Sea kits at all, a few of the local guys have them and once in a while one will test pretty accurately but most will read 0 even as high as 25ppm NO3. i use a PinPoint monitor, it's 250 bucks so not for everybody. Salifert kits do a great job till you get down under a few ppm.

for PO4 i use a Hanna Colorimeter, in the long run it's cheaper then the ROWA/Merck kit which is the only one I've found that gives accurate low range readings. i use Salifert for most things but their PO4 and NO3 kits aren't as good at very low ranges.
