Probably the wrong forum but I might get the best response here.

I purchases a neon GSP colony yesterday and surprisingly enough it has already opened up about 90% but the stars are not neon green... more like a dull green or even a brown/green.

Is this normal when they are stressed?

I would post a pic but my camera cant do closeups well.

It could be the lighting in your tank. Different bulbs will make for a different colour.

I once bought a green Torch coral, and when I put it in my tank, it looks like a dull brown/biege colour.

Your right, it probably is the wrong forum, but that is OK with me. IME, there are several types of GSP ranging from dull to neon. I have had several, but have never heard/seen them morph with conditions. IMO, yours may stay that way. HTH

I hope not, I have a 4 bulb T5 fixture so its quite a it of light on my 29G.

I'm going to try a different forum, thanks.

Did the natural color ever return?

Nope ! It's still a brown colour. With the actinics on, it looks a little green, but nothing like it was in it's origional tank.

Oh well, it's huge and healty in my tank, that's all I care about.

You know I took a closer look at the colony today and there is one arm of one polyp that is neon green. :eek2:

I still have hope for it. :D

different bulbs will give the same corals appear to be different. The more blue the bulb IMO the more color will pop or change.

I went from 2 atinics (20k blue) and 2 day time (10k white) T5's and everything was kinda washed to now having 2 fiji and 2 pro color bulbs. Everything in the tank shows a different color then it did previously.

The browns went to a nice green on my Zoo's.
The blues of my rics went to a nice Purple/blue.
And my GSP is now a neon color instead of a dull green.

try out different bulbs for different looks. Check out the light forum for pics of the bulbs.
Good luck-

I've thought of that as well, currently I have the stock lights which are 2x 10k and 2x 20k. I will probably just upgrade now since marine depot is 20% off UVL lights now.

Thanks.
