ok, whole story. 11 months into the 1st year. i started out trying to catch the mantis[turns out i have 2]finally gave up and deceided to leave almost everything alone, crabs and all.well after about 2-3 months both peppermint shrimp dissappeared. figured they were mantis food.tonight at feeding, both shrimp are out! where the heck they were hiding is beyond me.so, as of now i still have not found any real damage caused by the mantis.. they do get fed on a stick tho.

Pretty normal behavior for them. I am surprised you did not see them at feeding time, have you ever tried some raw shrimp, peps love it.

The mantis from this area are pretty tame compared to the rest of the species, they are smashers, not spearers and are usually kept happy with feedings and leave most everybody alone. They are great sand stirrers, and very entertaining. I seem to sell everyone I can come up with here.

Peps tend to molt right after shipping also, and their shell is often mistaken for the animal, which after molting retreats to the rock work and can usually be found hanging upside down somewhere in your tank.
