Guide to setup a Quarantine Tank (QT).

wait atleast 3 weeks in sump and try ghost feeding in dt so bacteria have no choice but to grow.
then transfer the media and ghost feed in qt as well few days before putting fish while testing for ammonia.
 
Picked up a kole tang yesterday, and just now noticed that it now has ich. At least I am 90% sure. It is already scrapeing. And it appears to have white dots. Every time I get close to the tank it hides behind the pvc. My copper comes in tomorrow so I will start then.sucks that it does have ich, I guess I was hoping to be one of the lucky ones not to.
 
99% of them do because the high turnover rate at fish stores and their system being shared. Cupramine will take care of it in 3 weeks. Also make sure to treat with prazipro.
 
Start with cupramine. Treat it for 4 weeks or longer if ich still exists after 4 weeks. Making sure breathing get back to normal due to unseen ich in gills. Once u get rid of ich then I can do Prazipro.

I think treating for flukes first since it's only 2 weeks and ich is not that fast of a killer. That being said I have done treating both at the same time.
 
always diagnose the parasite first and treat accordingly. ich has been diagnosed treat it as it can take down a fish in hours if its infested extremely. Prazipro treatment will be a preventive treatment so u can perform that after ich.

from your experience how reliable are the seachem ammonia badges?? i have one in there and just want to know how much i can trust it, thanks.
 
using cupramine they are quiet reliable. personally i always have well established qt's so running into an ammonia problem for me is rare and in fact never have in past. So i dont even use the badge.
But from what i have heard and seen its pretty reliable.
 
Honestly I have not used any since 1990's and back then only BioSpira was most common. I used 1 time on all new dry rock dry, sand sand setup with no ill effects.
 
bnumair, I think my Blue headed fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura) has ich. He doesn't really have small white dots just areas on his sides and flanks that are white. His color is less intense and he swims with his tail collapsed not extended. What most makes me think it is his behavior. He's rubbing his gill area on the edges of the PVC ell's.

He ate fair tonight, not his usual gusto but competed well. I've started lowering salinity tonight. Plan to treat with hypo.
 
sorry to hear that ur wrasse is showing some sort of parasitic behavior. some wrasse can handle hypo some cant so be easy and drop salinity slowly. i have seen fairy wrasse in hypo and come out just fine some have reported trouble and fatalities.
scratching against pvc is really not a good sign and could infest more if not attended so i am glad u started hypo.
just keep an eye on parameters and also on the fish itself like mentioned before some wrasse can handle hypo some cant. for most part more reefers report success on fairy wrasse with hypo.

There is also a Halichoerus wrasse in the same QT tank. Do they tolerate hypo? I have cupramine should I go with copper instead? Salinity is down to 1.020, my plan is to aim for 1.016 by tonight and then to 1.009 by tomorrow night. Is that slow enough?
 
It should be fine as well. Once u get to hypo just keep an eye on the fish. Any unusual behavior abort the hypo and go cupramine route but from what I researched both should be fine in hypo.
