Gurgle Buster Questions

I built a gurgle buster for my U-tube overflow and I can't seem to get it dialed in. I've tried it with the bell so high that there is almost no flow, and so low that the holes are completey open. Cap on, cap off, air tube all the way in to almost all the way out. The only way I can get dead silence is if I restrict my return to the point of bubbles staying in the U-tube. I really don't want any bubbles in the u-tube even though it does pass the power outage test.

Any ideas? A few more smaller holes maybe?

what size pump?

you dont want ANY bubbles in your u tube. after time they WILL build up and you WILL lose siphon. maybe try to lower your overflow box after the the tube is primed to get a force of flow to push the bubbles out.

I don't have any bubbles in the u-tube. I was just saying that restricting the return enough to leave the bubbles in was the only thing that worked to get the occasional gurgle to stop. ATM I'm just letting it gurgle but it's driving me nuts.

I've tried everything I can think off from no gurgle buster to an almost fully closed one and everything in between.

edit: The pump is 750gph

I had a hard time dialing mine in as well. I the key is to close the holes off enough so that only water is entering the bell. I got frustrated when I first set mine up and fliped the bell upide-down essentially making it a stockman pipe. It was quieter this way but would occassionally "burp" as bubbles accumulated inside the bell. I think I have 4 holes that are .5-.75inches.

I am using a 650gph pump plumbed into a SCWD at 5ft of head. This is probably only doing about 500gph through my 1" drain. I have no problems with bubbles in the U tube. Depending on the head pressure on your pump you may be trying to put too much water down a pipe that is too small?

I'll try and run the bell up near the top again. I'm running a 1" drain and it doesn't even come close to maxing it out. With the head loss calc and the valve throttled down, I'm pushing MAYBE 300 gph

How long has it been running? Mine took a few days to settle in and slime coat - it was louder before that.
