gurgling noise return line to sump

A few pics would help to see the set up. Also what size pump you have for return? I had to dial my pump back and it made it less noisy

Dursos gurgle. Plain and simple.
I would replace one of the dursos with a full siphon line and add a gate valve to that line to tune it to your return pump.
Make sure where your lines dump into the sump that they are under water, like 1/2" below the surface. This itself will eliminate a lot of noise.

BTW, you are actually talking about a DRAIN, not a return. Drains use gravity, returns use a pump.
Dursos only gurgle when they are pushed to handle too much flow. Unfortunately, most Dursos are undersized and can't handle the flow folks want. Look into converting one of your overflow boxes to a Herbie which is much more capable.
You are also likely to get flack about the bioballs. They are used in FW to convert ammonia into nitrates efficiently but in a saltwater setup, this conversion is better handled by using porous rock like those in the ocean. This is because the crevices in the rock allow for low oxygen zones where the nitrates can be broken down further into nitrogen gas which escapes into the air. Using bioballs tends to disrupt this by using up the ammonia in a location where it can't be converted to a gas and therefore you get a build up of nitrates in the water. Just an FYI.

What return pump do you have? I use the Ecotech Vectra which makes it much easier to match the return and drain lines. I have no gurgling issues to speak of.

I had the same problem. Check out my thread and the responses I got because on the advice of someone here I drilled 3 small holes into the top of the curved pipe on my durso and it eliminated the flushing noise.
I drilled one little hole first and waited to see if the noise stopped. When it didn't I drilled another hole next to it. 3 drilled holes was the charm! Absolutely quiet now, until the little holes get plugged with salt creep. Then I just stick a toothpick in to clear them and it's back to silent.
I need to add - that first I tried reducing the flow from the return pump. It helped a bit but still had flushing noises. I also added an extension piece to my drain pipe so it was under the water. That also helped with a lot of the noise, but not the flushing.
I'm not an expert. Just sharing my experience. Good luck!

No, pumps are designed to work against pressure on the outlet. You just increased that pressure. As long as you don't completely close off the outlet, you are fine.

Have you tried only having one hole in the top and using an air valve to adjust how much air goes through?

They are cheap. I bought a bag of them from amazon for under 5 bucks. I would get that and some standard aquarium tubing and see if that helps.
