gut loading brine shrimp?

morning everyone.

i have some live brine shrimp that some of my "picky" eaters in my QT tank eat. i understand they aren't very high in nutritional value so some people gut load them.

what can i feed these guys so they are gut loaded or "enriched"?

If they are live....Here is my mix:

1 cup - RO/DI water
1 tbsp - baby food sweet potatoes
1 tbsp - baby food sweet peas
1 mL - Selcon
1 mL - Vita-Chem

Shake it up real well, then add enough to the culture tank to tint the water slightly. I haven't tried to grow the brine shrimp out for much longer than a week or a bit more. To do so, a different food might be more effective. Also, watch for the culture water to foul, if you don't change it every 3-4 days it will get pretty stinky with bacteria growth.

If they are frozen....first, just buy the pre- gut-loaded kind. Second, just soak them in some Selcon and Vita-chem for a few minutes.

yes these are live brine. baby food eh? i just crushed up flake food in hopes they would eat that. guess i was pretty off ;]

anyone esle have any recipes?

Brine shrimp are non-selective filter feeders, that feed on whatever is floating in there water between 5 - 50 microns. I suppose that you could use a blender and make a paste with some flake food and water, but don't think grinding between your fingers is gonna get it small enough.

I forget where I got that recipe, but the peas and potatoes have some protein and carbs and lots of vitamins. The Selcon has all the essential fatty acids and stabilized vitamin-C and B12. Vita-Chem ensures all the vitamins are there, and also has several amino acids.

You could just use the Selcon and Vita-chem I suppose, but they are a bit expensive to be using in the concentrations needed to effectively feed brine shrimp.

Spirolina is very good for feeding brine shrimp.
You do need to make sure it is small enough for them. If you are using flake, crush it very fine and mix with a little tank water in a small container. If needed, you can use a blender.
