Gutter guard?

The male of my true perc pair jumped out of the tank last month, so I put up a screen on the back of my canopy before buying a replacement. Now, the female of the pair has been found in the overflow box twice this week. I need to put something up to block this, but window screen is not rigid enough, and the plastic gutter guards are not flexible enough. I found a piece of aluminum gutter guarding that is perfect for what I need, but should I be concerned about using this? It will not sit in the water, but might have water splash on it and back in the tank since it will be zip-tied to the overflow. Any problems with this?

I personally would not use it if it will get splashed on a regular basis and/or is left unpainted. Just be warned though that alumn will eventually corrode even when not in water.

I have the black plastic gutter guard wire tied mine for this very purpose. Personally I'd stay away from the aluminum stuff.

i have seen someone with a plastic net stretched across a plastic screen frame. It let in the light and stopped jump outs. I may need one, I have found four of my fish on the floor.

This is the same stuff that I bought from Home Depot and its very flexible. Is it possible you were looking at the semi flat sheet pieces of the plastic gutter guard? I have seen them also at Home Depot and can see how they wouldn't be very flexible

They don't have that type at my HD (not surprised, this one never carries what I need), I will check another HD or Lowe's tomorrow. THAT is exactly what I was looking for! The only plastic type my HD had was a more rigid type that was sold in 6 or 8ft lengths.

Not at my HD either. Had to pick it up at Lowes.

I cut a piece of egg crate to fit and covered it with window screen attaching it with super glue

Get a black acrylic clipboard and use a dremel to cut it to shape. Has the added benefit of blocking light in the overflow so less algae growth.
