Gyre 250 with Ice Cap Module?

Not sure if this question has come up yet but is the new Gyre XF250 compatible with the Ice Cap Gyre XF150 Module?

I like to control all of my equipment through my apex and since you can buy just the pump for the Gyre XF250 without a controller this would be perfect if it worked with the Ice Cap Module.

If it is not compatible does anyone know if there is going to be a new Ice Cap Module coming out to control it.

Looking to add a 2nd one to my tank for more random flow.

Getting a power supply to work shouldn't be a problem, I'm more concerned with did they change something in the motor block design that would prevent it to work with the Ice Cap Module.

Gyre 250 = 150. The pump itself is the exact same.

Some brave soul needs to figure out how to DIY a power supply so those of use with an apex can get the pump only option + icecap and skip their controller :-D

I don't believe this is entirely true. I think that the electronics are the same. 150 and 250 pumps both work with the 250 controller, and therefore, I assume the answer to the OP's original question would be that the 250 pump would work with the 150 Ice Cap module. However, the pumps do supposedly have some minor upgrades. I saw several changes listed somewhere (Coralvue website?). Also, last weekend at MACNA I was told directly by Maxspect that there were changes including "better bushings".

The electrical and electronics are the same which is what matters.

Let me look at the specs of the PSU and connector when I get home and I'll get you a parts list.

I ran into this same issue a couple weeks ago. Ordered the 150s and icecaps. They came unboxed and the lfs told me that they had no more 150s in stock because 250s were out. Asked lfs to contact them and find out what the deal was. They told me that the 250s would not work with the apex or ice cap any more. They said the pumps were the same but the controller had changed. So i kept the unboxed 150s. All is well and am happy with the apex control but yea...left a bad taste on the purchase.

Good luck getting to the bottom of this.

That's so strange because at MACNA the maxspect guy said that the 250 would work with whatever controller you already had.

Ok so gyre 150 uses a 24V/3A PSU with a dc barrel connector. I need to find my calipers to get exact measurement of barrel but looks pretty standard size so can be purchased for a couple of bucks. As for power supply I would step it up a notch from the cheap stock one and get this puppy.

Meanwell HLG-80H-24

It's IP67 rated so you can get it wet no problems. Awesome PSU. IMO every LED light and pump out there should come with HLG units but most manufacturers tend to skimp on this part to save a couple bucks. Only light I have seen that comes with the IP67 HLG is the Kessil AP700. I know the Vectras used to come with them too but now they seem to be shipping with cheap ones. It's astonishing that ecotech wants $75 for a replacement M1 PSU that cost them at most $10 and is cheap when this thing can be had for $46 https://power.sager.com/hlg-100h-36-2525290.html

the 200 series will work with the icecap.

Hi will the new 200 series gyre be controllable through the apex 2016 wirelessly without any additional modules? Or will I need the icecap module? Does the icecap module work with the new 200 series?

The IceCap module does work with the Gyre 200 series just as the previous gyre models. With the use of the ICV6 which is the Maxspect wireless hub you will be able to connect with new 2016 Neptune Apex controller and utilize their software app.

Soooo, with the Gyres on sale everywhere right now, I'm also trying to figure this out. If the XF250 works fine with the Icecap and a new Apex then all it needs is a 24V power supply rated to 3A or better? Before I go and order a pump only, only to discover I need their expensive all in one controller and PS?

Also, if it uses 24V, couldn't it be powered by one of the 24V Aux ports on the new EB832?

Correct ice cap controller, pump head, and power supply

Well, yes, but along with the original post the question is what could be used as a power supply without buying the expensive and otherwise unneeded advanced controller :(
Yes any after market power supply could be used if it matches the original outputs. Let me check one of my 150

Thanks :) At least I'm covered with pump only. Once here, along with new Apex, I'll see if the Apex 24V Aux can just power it. "Looks" like it should be able, but nothing delivered yet.

You are asking to fry something. Just buy a cheap 24V/3A power supply with the right size barrel.
