H. Crispa and bb tanks

I have read that H. Crispa likes to plant its foot in the sand.
Do they require sand or can they wedge themselves in the liverock or glass bottom and still thrive?

I think H. Crispa definately need sand. Never seen one planted anywhere but in the sand. They do secure to the glass at the bottom of the sand, though.

There are plenty that will secure to rockwork and probably the glass. I know my BTA has wondered onto the glass of occasion.

My H. Crispa has its foo midway up in the rockwork, no where near the sand.

Mine is attached mostly to live rock, with a small part of its foot in the sand.

I think a lot of it will depend on the individual you get. As you've read, some crispas aren't being that picky, but others might be. Just to add to the responses (and not help you at all ) mine does both. Sometimes it's in the sand (attached to a rock under the sand) and sometimes in some rock. Right now it's attached to the side of the rock but the bottom of it's foot is just skimming the sand.

I feel more comfortable trying to create an environment that's as close to their ocean life as possible, and crispas are sand dwelling anemones in the wild.

While I have not gone through my gallery in ages, I am pretty sure all the crispa in there are in tupperware boxes, half sand, half rubble which seems to work just fine for all of them.
