Please help.....

Let me first start off by saying that my aquarium parameters are good.... 0 Ammonia....0 Nitrites.... verry little showing Nitrates .... 450 Clacium ... 0 Phosphates.... 300/ 300 Hardness/ Alk .... 79 Temp .... 1.024 Salt...

Have Coralife PC fixture, Lunar lights, Ehiem 2227 wet/dry canister filter, sea clone skimmer ( piece of @%#*), powersweep power head (also soon to change out), 85 pds lr, 3" sand bed

I just bought a Yellow Tang, Blue Diamond Goby, and a sand sifting star ( anyone want it???, Wife purchased it and didn't tell me till after, the lfs won't take it back, I wonder why- maybe because they a useless!!).

Wife called me @ work this morning stating that the Yellow tang and Goby died.

Noticed they both were breathing heavy last night... the Tang also had a solid white stripe through the middle of its body starting at the head and going to its tail... not sure if this was anything to be noted.... Have a P. Clownfish and it is doing fine though.... Matter of fact, it has survived through whatever I have thrown at it....

I have no clue on what could be the problem, other than they were stressed from the purchase.. I am seriously thinking of taking the whole tank down and redoing everything if necessary.

Any help would be appriciated..

Also should be stated that approx. 3 month ago I had 6 green chromis, 2 blue diamond gobies, 2 p. clownfish, dwarf lionfish, and 3 anthias. All but the 1 p. clownfish died. all of my corals seemed stressed also. Thought something was wrong, I regularly test my aquarium, every sat morning, and I keep a log. looking back through the log I have yet to find anything a miss... Any suggestions on what it could be???

no, it had it when I bought it...It was the helthiest one they had, I watched it for a good hour or two to see if I could see any abnormal behavior. Didn't see any so I bought it.

Well since your water parameters are good, The one thing that comes to mind is stray voltage in the tank. I would purchase a grounding probe and see if that helps. They are pretty cheap and good insurance. It certainly cant hurt. Good luck

I thought that it may be taht last time, unfortunately i didn't get the grounding probe at that time. I did see a small leak in the heater glass and figured that it may be at fault so i took it out and havn't had any troublke since then i thought. I guess i better go get one then though. Any idea on were i can get one??? the lfs didnt have any last time i was looking....

Any on-line store has the Marine Depot - Dr. Fosters and Smith etc.

BTW what was that hardness figure you gave. Thats not 300 ppm is it ?

The white line is normal, all Yellow Tangs have it. It shows up best at night or when the fish is stressed..
I would get your Clownfish in a qt and leave your main fallow for awhile. You may have introduced a parasite [I didn't see you mention that you qt these fish]
Leave things be for awhile before introducing anymore fish

Billy-- I was going by memory on the hardness/ alk... I have a test strip kit for both and i remebered the 300 i believe it was the alk and the hardness was at 0 but im not possitive. I would reference my log but it is at home and im at work right now, i will have to double check my figures when i get home. thank you also on the locations of the ground probes..

bttrfly-- thank you for the insight on the tang's white stripe. I guess that was my fault for not doing enough resaerch on the tang... it must have just aarrived at the lfs and was still under stress when i bought it originally.

Thank you both.... your insight and knowledge is greatly appreiciated.

Your welcome. FWIW Alk and KH(hardness) are the same beast. You'll want your tank between 7 and 11 dkh which is about 125 to 200 ppm. If you can, get away from them test strips and get a titration type test for Alk (kh). Salifert and Seatest are two I recommend. Again if your LFS doent carry those you can order them on-line.

Awesome...thanks again, the test strip didn't reaaly give me the best info in my opinion anyway, i just didn't know if there were any other ways to test for it.... thanks again for your help!
