H. Magnifica

First thing into my tank when I set it back up (and by first thing I mean first after LR, Cleanup Crew, a couple of fish, at least 6 months after the cycle is complete).

Any experience with these anemones? I'm trying to get as much info as I can. I'm hoping I can get one, and get it settled into a good spot before I stock up on corals. Then pray the mofo doesn't move.

The H. Magnifica or Ritteri anemone is awesome! They can grow huge like 2-3ft sometimes, and require aheavily meaty diet. Definitely more along the ingredients that can be found in Carnivore diets. (Silverside, Scallops, lobster, shrimp, clams, and mussels.) Super intense light is needed as well and chaotic flow. These are the most challenging anemones to keep but one with a big reward. This is the anemone that is depicted in Finding Nemo that he lives in.

Hope this helps, and definitely keep track of what you do to take care of it so others can have success as well!

I have 2 ritteris in my 180 anemone tank. I have a total of 26 nems and my absolute favorites are the ritteris and I have infernos, sunbursts, carpets, and LTA. The way they move with a wavebox and mp40s is wonderful. I think good lighting, good flow and extremely stable parameters are key to ritteris success in home aquariums. The key parameters to watch are temp, alk, and pH. I have an aqua controller3 (yea I know old but it does the job I want it to) on my tank. The temp in my tank does not move more then a degree in the whole day. My cal reactor keeps my alk on point. For pH my controller keeps it from going above 8.3 or falling below 8.1, it controls the skimmer and algae turf scrubber. I've heard so many people say wait a year b4 u even think of purchasing a ritteri for ur tank. My tank has been up for 8 months and I purchased the ritteris 2 months after setup. So what maybe a month out of cycle

Thanks for the input guys.

I think I'm covered on flow (2x6095). I'm not too concerned about water quality...I'll get there. But I'm curious about intense lighting...how intense? I was planning on replacing my 6x54W T5 fixture with a 6x54W retro.

Should I go to 8x54W? 2x250W MH?

I would really prefer not to go with MH.

So are we talking about MH or bust for a Ritteri? I agree, MH is the best aesthetically, but I could do without the heat, and the cost of running.

If T5's aren't going to cut it, I need to either rethink my lighting, or rethink my nem...

Absolutely not, I guarantee my T5s will sustain anything halides can. I'm not gonna say color or growth is better but they definitely do the job. When I added the LEDs to the mix I had to turn them down.

My 2 mags sit between 2 250 watt halides at what I would call the outer sphere of their par areas so "intense" is not always necessary. I also rarely feed them so again not 100% necessary especially if you don't want huge ones. I would agree with aquaph8 that T5 will be fine as long as your going to set them up how they like. I would recommend a tiered island so they can pick their spot and not wander off and give them alternating currents from your 6095's and you should be golden.
