I recently purchased a Ritteri anemone, this only my second attempt in 18 years of reefing. My first attempt was a success, I ended up giving her to a fellow hobbiest when I had to move. For over a year I kept it under a single 400 watt 65K Iwasaki. Now over a decade later I have an opportunity to keep another one in a 60 cube I recently tied to a 9 year old 240 mixed reef. The 60 cube is lit by a DIY Plasma/LED fixture. The Plasma by itself has a very similar intensity and spectrum as the 65k Iwasaki, but its also got 24 royal blue LEDs to increase the color temperature to around 10-12K. In this tank I've got 3 other anemones 2-Condys and an LTA which so far is not taking to well to the intense light.
I need some expert eyes to review my Anemone set up, and let me know if you see any potential problems I might run into with other anemones, tank mates, lighting ect..... I've had it now for 6 days and in that time it has remained in the same place and stayed the same size. It also seems to be taking small pieces of shrimp and scallops.

I did notice late the second day that the tentacles were oozing what looked like white entrails (mushroom guts). However this was only on the top closest to the light, the tentacles on the bottom were just fine. Is this a normal reaction when introduced to bright light when not properly acclimated to it? This has gone away now... I saw it up to the 4th day and that was it.

It looks pretty happy to me, but taking a look at the mouth is the best way to gauge them. It should be closed and pointed out in a cone shape. Regarding the setup, I would change 2 things personally.

1. It will want to sit up on a flat rock, like the top rock in your tank. I say get another flat rock like that one and set it up on top to make the stack an inch or two taller, then GENTLY remove it from the glass and set it on the top of the flat rock. This is very dangerous to the foot though, so I would not do it if you aren't comfortable with safely removing the foot from the glass.

2. Magnificas tend to like a lot of flow, easily double what it is getting right now. So once it is up high in the middle, see if you can add a powerhead to create some crossflow at the very top and give a little more chaotic flow through the tentacles.

Looks good BTW, very nice base color. :)

if it were me, i would remove the condys and maybe the lta as well - that mag could make a great species tank with a couple of clowns if you get it to the rock in the middle of the cube.

Thank you for the reply

1. I did plan on using that flat rock as a permenant place. When I introduced it to the tank I placed it on that rock, and it quickly moved from the rock to the sandbed, then eventually up the glass where is now; away from direct light. I think I will wait a few weeks before trying to move it, just to make sure it is over the stress of the initial acclimation.

2. Your right the flow is a little light. I plan on ordering a tunze 6015 for increased flow to the mag. I have a 6045 but that seemed a little to intense and it didn't seem to like it.

Thanks Ace, its always good to hear from you;)

I agree, this is my ultimate goal with this tank.... Do you think the Condy will damage the Mag if they touch? I tried to remove the Condys but they are dug in like a tick. I didn't want to stress the tank too much right now. I will probably need to dismantle the rock work to get it out.

not sure which would come out on top troy, but i wouldn't want to take the chance of stressing the mag either by direct contact or chemical warfare. are you running carbon on the system?

Yes, When I introduced the Mag it slimed for a couple of hours, so I turned my skimmer on and caused my skimmer to go nuts so I downshifted to carbon to remove what I can. I would like to eventually go back to skimmerless but not until I can remove some of the nemosyst produced... What would signs of warfare look like between nems? So far I haven't see anything, even when it was sliming everything looked happy..... Just slimy
