H. Magnifica

elegance coral

They call me EC
I picked this up today. Thought I'd see what y'all thought about its chances. It was about a foot across at the LFS, but has only opened to about 8 inches in my tank so far. It planted its foot in minutes, though.

separate the anemones, there have been lots of chemical warfare reported with mags .

its very nice and looks quite healthy

Thank you.

I thought you would tell me it was a BTA. Just kiddin.

I have an octagon tank I will be moving the Mag into as soon as I can get it going.

Looks very healthy to me. If there are no tears on the base, I think you should be off to a good start. I'm glad to hear you will be moving the magnifica out of the tank with other anemones. Although some people successfully keep them with other species of anemones, as well as other corals, I would say only keep them with their own species. I hope you find it to be a hardy addition to your tank once it settles in. Don't be surprised if it takes it a few days before it will accept any food. Then try very fresh food and in small portions.

Looks pretty good to me! I wish you the most of luck. Make sure you read up on them and make every condition perfect

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. My nerves are shot, and I've only had it for about 24 hours. I really hope he makes it.

Well I tried to feed it. It grabbed the fish and pulled it in. At first it seemed to have a very strong feeding response.

But then it just let go:(

Thanks again everyone. It seemed to be doing okay, so I figured I would try feeding it. I won't try again until probably Tuesday. That is if all goes well.
Here's some eye candy until then.

There isnt any need to seperate the two, the chemical warfare issue has never been proven. I had a 2 year old Ritt in with three carpets green/blue/red in a 215 for over a year and a half before hurricane Rita killed my tank. there was a purple sebae in there as well.

I have a thread about it somewhere around this place around 4 years ago. :)

crap red ex'es

Its possible to keep more than one docile pair of clowns with that combo if spaced correctly.

Tight mouth good firm looking body. You have a shot. Keep trying to feed and watch for rapid inflation/defalation cycles.

Ya, amazing specimen, mine looked like that but he got too big and i had to sell him. i miss him, my percs loved it! mine didnt like big pieces of fish, and didnt like krill, i had to cut the silversides in little 1/2 inch pieces and dipped them in selcon and then he would eat it. but he didnt eat for like a week when i first got it.

Looks great so far. I wouldn't stress yet. Mine has been in my system for 4 weeks now. Started much the same as yours. Would not eat until about day 5 or 6. Initial feeding was Silversides in small pieces when he took right in but then released a few minutes later. Next feeding was small pieces of scallops and was much more successful.

I've still got my fingers crossed for mine, definitely my favorite nem by far!! Good luck with yours as well and I'll echo the others as well, great pics!!!!!!!!!!!

You're killing me! :)

 Thanks.
Dude, I have been waiting to find an anemone like this for years. My LFS has them every once in a while, but they are always half dead by the time I see them. Now that I have it, the stress is killing me. :hmm4: You know how bad it would suck to lose the Holly Grail after years of looking for it? I won't be able to sleep until it starts eating.

Hay........... I just looked through your photo gallery. You have some real sweet corals. I have never even seen a blue Goniopora in person. Your LFS must not be to bad.

For those of you that are sucessful with H. Mag, what is your nitrate level? I keep reading that the nitrate level has to be 0 for these anemones. To be honest, I haven't checked my nitrate level in a very very long time. I'm sure it's not outrageous or anything, but I may have a small nitrate level.
