ok i have the really anoying problem with hair algea in the frag tank on the egg crate and what not. there is not HA in the display, just the frag tank. i run phosban but havent changed it in a while. anything i could do to rid the HA of the frag tank. i have some snails and a sailfin blenny and a few chromis in there. had a convict tang but he past-on from whatever ailed him prior to me buying him. he was doing a great job but now that he is gone, been about a week, the HA is back in full. the display has enough tangs in it to combat any army of algae.

that seems to be a common problem with eggcrate. I believe the releasing agent used in the eggcrate molds contains phosphate, and usually, the eggcrate will leech for a month or two, fueling HA all over it. This is how it goes everytime I have used new white eggcrate. the HA always disappears after a month of two.. FWIW.

What kinda plugs are you using?

What if you get a piece of acrylic and use that as a frag shelf. You can drill the right sized holes or change and use the 'golf tee' frag plugs.

OR

get another tang
