Habitants with an Odontodactylus sp

Hello,

I converted my 15g Peacock mantis shrimp to a 30g. I was thinking to add something to the aquarium to look more natural and of course more action.

Can I add another mantis shrimp?

If no what else can I add to this tank that does not become bait for my peacock?

Thanks

No more mantises. Maybe a small water dwelling fish like chromis or some low light corals like green star polyps, xenia, and mushrooms.

Thanks. If you don't mind I would like to ask 3 questions!!

Which species of fish does the peacock noramally eat?

Does anybody ever bred the peacock?

Do a pair of peacock live together?

A) They dine almost exclusively on inverts like crabs and snails in the wild. If they can catch a fish, however, there is a chance they will try to eat it.

B) Peacocks can be bred in the aquarium, but the larvae are near impossible to raise. It has never been done in captivity

C) No mantis can ever live with a peacock safely. This includes other peacocks.

Dan

I wouldnt keep a chromis, with a mantis just because when they sleep they tend to sleep near the substrate making them easy prey, maybe a dwarf angel (Bi-Color).

I keep a gold stripe maroon clown with mine. He doesn't even look twice at her. And she gets pretty close to him during the day and night to his burrow. At one time I have had two other damsels in there with him but I had to get them out due to many fish in my tank.

my peacock killed the chromis i put in, but leaves the two damsels alone. I suspect the chromis are just more timid and have a greater tendency to hide in the rocks than the more active damsels.

Thanks for all your reply's. It's nice to breed any marine fish, I don't care if the larvae will die. At least taking a chance will not harm.

My question is, Can I keep a pair of peacock (male & female) in a 30g aquarium?

I forgot to tell you that the total water volume is going to be 40g because I have a 10g sump underneath ... thanks

Pea Brain, I did not understand your answer. My question was if in a 40g setup, do a male and female peacock live together?

If people are breeding them I think yes right?

They will breed, but they are territorially and not monogamous by nature. In fact they will rarely breed with the same individual more than once if they remember them. They will breed, and then it will turn violent. It could take a number of seconds, minutes, hours, or even a couple of weeks, but it will end badly 99% of the time.

Thanks for your information... So they are really a strange animal.
Not bad, they want a new female for their next breed love.. heheh
