Had to cut lights...bad for BTA?

Hi all,

I got a new T5, 4 x 24w and the lighting change has caused a wicked algae bloom in my tank. I have cut my lighting to 5 hours or so a day from 11 while I fight this stuff. With this harm the BTA or Zoos I have in my 30g?

Personally I wouldn't think it would be any worse than a few stormy days out in the wild.
