Had to have an angel

Here is a pic of mine last year:

Not long after this pic he start shreading corals...... and the rest is history as they say :(

how often were you feeding? in theory if you keep their stomach full they have no reason to try and eat coral right? that's how it has worked for my butterfly to this point at least.

I feed enough for that emporer to grow from 3" to 8" and transform fully inot adult colours in less that 30 months - which by all accounts is quite quick.....

My tank gets 6-8 cubes of frozen food, a full sheet of nori, and 1-2 teaspoons of pellets at a day.

You idea re feeding assumes that hunger is the driving force...... my emporer (to my knowledge) as never eaten a coral...... he just rips them up and spits them out..... seemingly just for fun. I think you may find that as the fish grows, and his appetite along with it, you will find it harder to keep his belly full and water quality under control.

I'm realy not trying to sound like a prophet of doom, just trying to spare someone else the heart ache and expense of a failed emporer reef dream...... several people with 5-10yrs+ expdrience warned me of this when I tried, and I had the optimism you now show and so pushed on and for ashort time suceeded - I sincerely hope you are one of the lucky ones with a reef compatible specimen....... but the odds are..... well..... you know what I mean :(

Good luck!
