Haddoni Photoperiod?

I used to keep mostly SPS and recently swaped the tank to contain mostly softies and the Haddoni carpet. I run 2x150w Pheonix 14k HQI's. I used a 6 hour PP for the SPS and all was well with growth and color. Would this same PP be sufficient to keep the Haddoni healthy? Looks good so far, color, feeding, closed mouth. Any info help appreciated.

Not sure what Todd said... But, personally I'd bump it up a couple hours. I run a 250w MH over a 30 breeder (he gets a lot of exposure) with my Haddoni for about 9 hours a day. The growth rate has been incredible and I've never seen any signs of the anemone showing stress or trying to escape the light at any point in the photoperiod. All that said, there's a good chance that 6 hours would be sufficient.

Yea, I am sure that that PP would be more then enough. Right now both of my tanks that have Haddoni's have an 8 hour photo period. I am sure that I could go less, but I have them set up to be on when I am home.

And with those lights you will be more then fine. For about 3 years I had my tan one under PC's -- had to feed more back then, but it was still doing good with them. But, does look better under MH.


And to add to it, my 58 has 2*250 20,000Ks SE, and my 75 has 2*250 14,000Ks DE.

Part of the thing that I noticed with Peter's post is that talked about incredible growth -- I am fairly happy with the size of mine, so I don't feed as often as I used too. So if I wanted mine to get larger I would extend the photo period. And none of my 3 are reaching for light, and pretty much stay in the same place -- unless I screw something up.

Mine doesn't get fed very often any more. I was feeding it every day or two for a while, but it quickly became clear that if I didn't want to buy a 36"x36" cube in the near future that maybe I should cut back Growth has continued to be incredible, but I'm just sticking with the photoperiod since much like you I keep the lights on for my viewing pleasure. My lights go on about 4pm and off around 1am.

LOL I know exactly what you are talking about. When I first got my blue one I was feeding it once or twice a week, it pretty much doubled in size within a couple of months. "Lucky" for me it lost about 1/4 of its size when I damaged it moving it to another tank.

I stay up way later then my lights are on, but that is okay, I like to be able to see all the critters that come out after lights out. And my electric bill is high enough.

I am suppose to work normal hours. But, I am an insomniac, which has gotten worse lately -- though that is because of a resent back surgery.

Just looked at the tank now too -- and by the looks of the glass, I won't have to buy any more snails for ages. One of the baby turbo snails is getting pretty big. (( either a turbo or Trochus or Astraea can't be sure yet ))

Thanks Peter for giving your insight and posting your experiences on this topic. Always glad to hear from you. It seems to have found a happy spot and has dug into a transition area of sand to rock. It stays flat and does not reach for the light. I am considering using higher PAR lamps, AB 10k's which would be more favorable to the animal and shorter PP. For now I'll see how it reacts to the current setup and go from there. The tank is only 20" tall and the fixture is mounted on stock legs, so it pretty much sits ontop of the tank. One lamp is directly over the Haddoni.

Thanks GSMguy. I will miss them but welcome the change. I posted a video a short time ago. I picked up a blue Haddoni with a pair of Polymnus clowns. I also acquired a nice colony of Palau Nepthea, all traded. Its nice to see activity and movement in the tank again. I'm really diggin' the softies. SHHHH! I kept two colonies. A table species that I just couldn't part with and a nice Orange Monti Cap for the color.

I've kept SPS on the bottom of the tank that grew and maintained their color. I figure if it was OK for the Acro than it should be fine for the Nem. I could be wrong though and will adjust accordingly.

Nice blue carpet Sir, i love SPS and my tanks will always have some SPS, but Anemones add something really special to a tank, i hope that one does well for you, Todd has some very nice SPS in with his carpets i love the look of his tank.

Thanks, I hope so too. It did move, with a little help, to a spot that transitions the rock and sandbed. It seems they like to have a secure attatchment. I like the look of the tank with the Nem in its new home.

Yes, it seems to be. For now. Last night it contracted to a smallish size, but was inflated this morning. First time that happened. I know they inflate and contract. Will keep you guys posted.

I remember when I reached the magic number "50". Those were the good ole' days.

Q1. Like to check is it normal for the carpet to lay flat when the lights are off?

Realise mine does that when lights are off.

Q2. How do I tell if my haddoni is stress/happy?
