Haddoni Tank Build

I recently won a Oceanic BioCube HQI (29 gallon) from a local reef festival. I currently have a 29 gallon (softie tank) and a 93 gallon (mixed reef) tank. So I was trying to decide what to do with this tank. I am considering making an anemone only tank (with clownfish) in this tank.

One idea I had was to get a red or blue Haddoni for the center of the sandbed. And then on the live rock, maybe a bubble tip or two. I also thought about doing some neon GSP on the back of the tank, just to give some added interest. I have had success with RBTA, and had much success. I am now wanting to try my hand at a Haddoni. I was just wanting to see what you all thought?

A lot of online vendors are also doing the Black Friday sales this week, so I wanted to get some of the basic stuff like sand, rock, and powerheads. I planned on doing a 4-5" substrate. What kind of sand is best for a Haddoni? The larger particle stuff, or the sand that is fine like sugar?

Any recommendations on a powerhead(s)? I run mp40's and mp10's on my other tanks. Would a single mp10 be alright for this setup?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I am just wanting to get this tank going, so I can get it cycled and on it's way to maturing enough for an anemone.

It is hard enough to keep one anemone in a 29 gal cube, Keeping two that required non-similar condition is very difficult. I recommended that you choose one species and go from there.
MP 10 is fine for the 29 gal cube. MP40 is too much but you can away turn the flow down with these PH.
I keep Magnifica, Gigantea, Haddoni, Malu, and BTA (only one at a time other than Malu) in 29 gal cube before and they did well. I would not attempt to keep two species in a 29 cube.

You really need to start with small anemone and don't feed them too much to keep them from growing too much.

It is really important that you get everything just right, light, circulation, and water quality or else you will have anemone soup. PH cover or not, in a 29 gal cube, it you anemone move you will will have a poor out come.
Notice the numbers of PH needed for high indirect flow need for high flow anemone. All replaced by a single Vortech MP10.

Thanks for your response! I will for sure go with the Haddoni then. I am already keeping a large bubble tip in my mixed reef. I also like the look of the Gigantea, but they seem to be even harder than the Haddoni to keep, according to what I've read.

Thanks for the powerhead suggestion. I will go with a single MP10. I wasn't sure if one would be enough to create the alternating flow. I'm using two mp10's on my 29 gallon softie tank.

What about sand for a Haddoni? Would you recommend a 1-2mm size, or the 0.25-1mm size?

I believe the light is a 150w metal halide.

My large neon green S. haddoni hated higher flow (and ate a bunch of fish!) in my 45g "frag" aquarium - the MP10 will be more than enough, and you won't need it dialed up...

I know it's still a risk, but the only fish I'm going to keep is a pair of clownfish. I'm painting the wall behind my tank right now, but I'll start posting photos soon. I plan on ordering the equipment tonight. I've just got to figure out what size sand. Probably the larger, bc I hate the sandstorm the smaller grains cause.

Duncanr9t,
Other BTA, none of the other anemone will move when they are happy. All will move when they are not.

fattytwobyfour,
Haddoni will not like much flow so any sand would be fine. Fine sand is better for filtration. You can always have a layer of coarser sand on top. 3-4 inches would be fine for Haddoni.

Thanks. I think I'll order the fine sand for most of the tank, and do a bag of coarser sand on the top. I got the wall painted tonight, so I'll move my tank in tomorrow, and try to order the equipment then too.

You have been way more help than Google. I greatly appreciate it! I'll use this thread to document my progress.

make sure u dig a hole in the sand and place the haddoni in it. i did that and it hasnt moved since day 1. low flow too.
