Haddoni?

got this at my LFS for $40. It was listed as a saddle back anemone but it is a little bleached so I hope I can bring it around with pristine water, good light and great food. Any advice would be great

haddoni it is (also called saddle carpets because they host saddle clowns). I used to keep the blue variety and fed them once a week with krill and other meaty items. They appreciate a deep sandy bottom to bury their foot in and grow quick. They are also known fish eaters. Mine ate a yellow tang and a couple of flameback angels. Good luck with yours, appears to be in good condition.

+1. My immediate reaction these days when seeing photos of any carpet is that it could be a helianthus. They've flooded the market recently, and I'd guesstimate that 80% of all I've seen have indeed been S. helianthus.

Hummm I wonder if they are doing this to eat the clowns so people buy more.

From the not so good picture, i can see a faint yellow lipstick'ish rim around the mouth, but the fact it's sitting on rocks and so extended doesn't scream haddoni to me.

When I got a healianthus in my early days of searching, I brought it home and it climbed the rocks.. Be careful. Get a picture of the underside to be certain. They are mean buggers.

+1... Orange verracue underneath.

no orange underneath. plus I put it on that rock and i think it is deciding weather on not he wants to stay there. hopefully I am safe from a fish eater

sweet... I am glad i got what i payed for and it shouldnt eat my clowns even though they show no intrest in it at all

There is always the chance that they might eat the clowns, especially if the clown is not what it host naturally.

I'm getting my second for my tank. I've got a blue who is hosting a single Clarkii. My other two Clarkii need a "friend," since this single one won't let them near it. I'm hoping that the pair will host.

They're interesting animals. Yes, they're at the top, but they do what they were meant to do. If a fish wanders into its tentacles, they get stung or eaten. Just ask my Humu-humu. He went after some food in the anemone's disk and got stung. He's recovered now and stays away from it. A bubble tip, which is supposed to be less aggressive, actually killed my mandarin and a small tang. Happens in the tank, happens in nature.
