Looks like the filter guys will be busy in the morning. I just placed an order for replacement filters and sent an email as well asking for some advice. Tested tonight, had 165 in and 57 out .... ouchhh. Let that one slip by me.

By the way that 165 is rural water out in the country. Not too bad after hearing what others are getting.

I would be pretty happy with 165. My water is not much cheaper then buying it town. I just had a bad experience with fish store water though so I figured it was worth the investment.

The Filter Guys are pretty awesome! Jim called me today to go over my water parameters to make sure I was ordering what I needed. I have heard this about them and now I too have received their great service.

They're good guys that sell quality equipment, as well as give quality advice. Everything you'd want in any business you'd ever deal with.

Got my new filter set today from the filter guys. I am finally back to 0 TDS, time for some water changes both fresh water and salt water.

Needless to say, I am thrilled with the filter guys products and services.

BigBlue, I would get yourself a DI from these guys. It will help algae problems in general if not your particular problem.

I would suggest the double DI unit from them, you are then able to fully use the cartridges and maintian 0 TDS by moving the second cartridge to the first position and putting new material in the second cartridge.

If you have low water pressure and the extra cash the booster pump is also a nice feature. Mine is a low 44psi without the booster pump and 94 psi with. Production is at least doubled and TDS out of the RO went from around 30 to the low teens.

More pressure lowered the TDS?? I din't know that. Also, I assume you mean the TDS out of the membrane before the DI is in the low teens as after the DI it should be 0?

Yes it lowered after the booster pumpwas installed.

TDS in teens after RO and after the two 10" canister DI's and third horizontal DI container it is definitely 0. I fully use up the first canister and when the second starts to change color I move it to the first position and place new DI resin in the second position. The third DI filter is there in case I am travelling and my wife uses a bunch of water for changes or makeup. Its my piece of mind filter.

My filter start with the .5 micron prefilter for the booster pump, then the pump, then sediment, carbon block, carbon block, RO, two stage DI, and then my third horizontal DI filter (from old RO/DI unit).

An 8 stage filter plus pump, wow! That should be 0 TDS plus, is there a -10 TDS???

You have to take into account that my water is above 600 TDS to start with. Plus I am a firm believer in excess.

Wow 600 TDS! I hope you don't drink the stuff. ;0)

I have had it tested, its fine in terms of drinking. Its just slighty harder then diamonds. Nothing a good water softner cant take care of. The RO water also feeds the refrigerator and icemaker, which is what we drink.

Hey Billy,

How do you have your RO water split off to feed your fridge? I was wondering if there is a way to use the wasted RO water other than save it to a separate storage tank.

I have mine setup the same way, my RODI unit has a RO only output which runs to a pressure tank then goes to my drinking faucet and ice machine. We even make our own bottled water with the stuff.

Pressure tank? Could you please explain this one? I hate the fact that I am sending water down the drain that is far better than what we drink!

A pressure tank is just a tank with a bladder in it. There is air pressure around the bladder so when you fill it with water the air pushes on the bladder causing the pressure to push water out of the tank and out the faucet or to your ice maker or both like mine.

I currently do not use my waste water for anything. When I install my sprinkler this fall I think I will route it to a storage tank to use it for watering the yard.

To get the water to my fridge I have a tee installed after the RO unit. There is a check valve immediately after the tee. This runs to the refrigerator. There is a 3 gallon storage tank for the refrigerator circuit so there is enough water to use when you want it.

This pic is from Marine Depot. You can get them cheaper then Marine Depot, but here is what we are referring too.
