Hairy Mushrooms?

Bought this rock at a swap this weekend. Loved the colors. 5 mushrooms the size of a golfball. 24 hours later, this is what i have. They are HUGE? Wanted to double check exactly what type of shroom they are

Thanks. Did not realize how big until they opened up. They were small on the rock but the water was cold. After the got comfortable they exploded. Seem to be happy after 3 days of moderate flow and on the bottom of the tank

Mushrooms in general open wider the lower the light and they love just a moderate flow. The last frag I bought was similar to yours, maybe 3/4" across in the dealer's tank, 2" or more in mine. :)

I had those mushrooms in this old tank. They grew so fast and were able to kill zoa/pallys, other mushrooms, and they destroy monit caps.
On the other hand a large colony with some clowns is a nice addition to your tank.

Awesome tank, love the colors. This tank still around?

Ya elephant ear mushrooms are actually considered pests to many reef reference books I read in the past due to their size and ability to shade light source for all corals. Not to mention I seen a video of a enormous one eating a fish.

I am not sure many reefers are worried about corals propogating unless they are hard to remove from the rocks. Hairy shrooms are easy to thin out so you can make new friends by giving them to locals or selling back to LFS/craigslist. I sold four of them to some new reefers locals for a song and a dance and they were thrilled....so enjoy and I hope they multiply like crazy for you!!
