Haitian live rock (uncured)

I found a good deal on uncured Haitian LR. How does this rock measure up to Figi, Tonga, Marshall Island, etc... Is 3.99/LB a good deal for 25lbs of Uncured Haitian?

I bought some Haitian LR for my tank. It was cheaper than the others, and not worth it. Haitian LR is mostly flatter shaped and not nearly as porous as Marshall, Fiji, etc.

There is a place over in Gibsonton that has Caribbean/Haitian LR for $2.99/lb with no limit. They also run a sales ad on craig's list pretty frequently. Myself and a friend on mine were down there last friday and picked up about 20 pounds of rock for his tank, the rock was really nice. (lots of coraline, encrusting corals & sponges.) Check them out.

Thanks for both of your responses. I've also heard that Figi is better, and I'm guessing Marshall better still (based on price).

I was really thinking about Tonga branch rock, any thoughts?

I will check out the Lifeoceanic, thanks Mike.

You cant get Tonga Branch now. The collection from the islands has been put on hold. I've been looking for some for about a year, and still haven't found anything! Fiji Branch rock is still available, but it really doesn't have the look of Tonga. Fiji is basically just dead Acro corals, and it really looks like it. It's very uniform, and IMO almost looks fake. I love the random pattern of Tonga Branch

the hidden reef in philly has a pretty good stock of what they are selling as tonga branch rock

Is this for walk in only locally to Philly or did you see it on a website? I looked at the hidden reefs website and didn't see any live rock at all.

Can anyone add any thoughts on LR. Which type is best and why? Is it just about shape and appearance or is the "better rock" better at bacterial filtration because of it's porosity?

We were talking about TONGA BRANCH which is made of Coral branches, it looks nice, but is it better than something like Figi at filtration and staying clean (not holding Phosphates)?

I like the hatian, if you have a good sized fuge and are not relying on the rock in your display totaly for filtration, then hatian with a little fiji makes for some really nice aquascaping. I also like it because it almost "interlocks" with itself, and it has good holes and caves on the little bit larger pieces. My gobys and blennys like it alot, plenty of hiding room.

Is there a type of rock that purges phosphates better? Would that be a more porous rock? If so, which type of rock is more porous?

I can find you some, not sure how much he has left but its some if you want any just throw me a PM.

I'm leaning toward Fiji dry rock if anyone has a good site on where to get it. So far it's either too expensive or out of stock. I'm interested in Fiji rubble too.

I got my fiji dryrock from BRS, but macro rock and texas holey rock is also nice. starting with all dryrock this time was so much better, no bad critters or algea and Its way nicer to work with making structures and stuff when its still dry
