Haitian Mushroom ?

One of the Haitian mushroom in my main display has been looking rather peaked for 4-5 weeks now. It shows no outward signs of rips, tears, or predation stress. So I gently pried it off its rock to look at the underside.

That's when I noticed some small frilly life forms that are brown with cream edges stuck to the underside near its foot. My first thought is that it's been using energy to reproduce since those looked like they could be baby mushrooms. But I'm such a novice I'm not sure what's going on. Any one have any thoughts/ideas?

are they separate or attached? Could they be nudis? That is a cool shroom hitchiker. I hope it is ok. Pics might help.

hmmm... doesn't look normal whatever it is. I could be wrong, but it looks to be some kind of frilly parasite. Maybe ask on the Reef Discussion forum to make sure it's not normal shroom growth. A FWE (Flatworm Exit) dip will remove most things like that (flatworms, nudis etc) from what I understand. Apparently a freshwater dip (don't know how long) is ok too and will remove it if it is a parasite.

I dunno either.....being from Haiti and all..could have been there all along...defiantly not reproduction.....I suggest the round file!

This is, in fact, it's insides coming out of the foot. I got one as a loose frag. After I mounted it, it appeared to want to leave the mount and after a day, started ejecting this same stuff out of its foot. How is yours doing btw?

interesting. I wonder why its insides were coming out? I filed it in the circular file as Richard suggested. My other one got its edges nibbled on by the decorator crab or the coral banded shrimp and it's now showing its insides.

Sounds like some sort of defense mechanism. Prolly shoulda kept the one....bummer

Mushrooms and Behavior - 6/7/07
Hello Joe here.
<Hi Joe, Mich here!>
First off, great site. Full of knowledge.
<Thanks! Glad you like!>
I have a mushroom rock consisting of about five dime size mushrooms. Now I have searched the site for an answer but couldn't find one. Yesterday I noticed one mushroom with its filaments coming out, which I did find on this site.
<Happens, something likely disturbed it. I wouldn't be overly concerned, especially if it is back to normal today.>
Tonight once I turned the lights off I noticed a different mushroom cupping under itself almost balled up with its mouth open. Any ideas? Reproducing? Sick?
