Halichoeres wrasses with clams?

I got a tridacna derasa 5 days ago. So far it looks great and expands nicely. But just today I noticed my Neon Wrasse (Halichoeres garnoti) pecking at the under side of the clam. The clam closed up as a result briefly when the wrasse did this. I've read that Halichoeres wrasses typically eat pyramidellid snails which prey on clams, and because of that I assumed they were safe with the clams themselves. Is this not the case?

For now I placed a fish net near the clam to try to scare the wrasse away from the clam, but he'll get used to that eventually. I'm not averse to getting rid of the wrasse. I bought him mostly to help out with a nudibranch problem (the one that eats zoanthids), and he's done his job (along with Flatworm eXit and FW dips for the frags) and I'm nudibranch free now.

from what ive read i think you will be ok. there diet consists of smaller inverts, but keep an eye on it.

Certainly be wary. I know of someone whos fairy wrasse destroyed the gills of several slams before he got it out. Some fish were just not meant to be.
