i have 2 175 watt SE XM metal halides. i've only had them for 2 months. today one bulb exploded. has anyone experienced before? why did this happen and should it have happened after only running them for 2 months? is there some kind of warranty xm will provide?

The only times I have heard of bulbs exploding is when they get splashed with a lot of water.

i did notice some water spots on the bulb for some reason... the end of the bulb just popped off. how bad would it be to superglue it back on and still use the bulb?

While I no longer use them, I used that bulb for a couple of years and never had any issues. Granted, I have a full hood that has a piece of acrylic so there is no way they could get splashed with water.

HA HA!

You have got to be joking right? glue a light bulb! that's rich! ha ha

XM are prone to breakage easily if some water hit it.

Either put them 8-10" off water or add a glass shield.

"XM are prone to breakage easily if some water hit it."....
I would think most MH's are prone to break when water hits them"....but thats just me.

I had a bulb on my car break at the base of it, I couldnt replace it at the time because they dont sell them at the auto store, they are the HID lights, basically a small metal halide, so I glued the base of it and has worked ever since and that was a year ago, and they cost as much as our halides for the aquarium. The glass itself is a shield protecting the inner bulb. But.... I wouldn't recommend gluing your bulbs though
