halide question

I am doing some research to see how much I will have to drop to upgrade my 260w PC to maybe two 250 MH. (When my PC's go bad, maybe july or aug.)

Obviously used off of RC is an option, but I am also looking at other ways to get 2 halides for around 200 bucks or so.

Has anyone ever gotten lights from
A- a lighting store?
B- Hydroponic grow lights?
C- Parking lot floodlights?
D- Home depot or Lowes?

Know of any drawbacks/advantages to the above options?

what are hydrophonic grow lights used for? :lol:

After reading things about taking HD/Lowes lights, in the end you end up spending the same amount for normal halide setups.

I have one of there ballast, and Run all of EVC bulbs! :thumbsup:

14k is really blue
10k is really bright and has clean look, no yellow tint at all.

I assume I will just get some aquarium lights.
Do I have to get 1 ballast/ light or can I split 2 lights off 1 ballast?
If I can, would I have to get a 500W ballast to have 2x 250, or what?

No you cannot split the Ballast to 2 lights. It has to be 1 ballast per bulb.

trottman do you know from experience what those lights are used for.. how many MJ-MODS do you have in your 75RR??

i got 2 in my 125g just about to much movement(mj mods high flow 1200's)

i have one high flow 1200 and was thinking about a medium flow 900 mod.

IMO the electronic ballast are better, you can run all types of bulbs. The one above is a Probe Start Magnetic Ballast. Again JMO
