Hamilton Cebu

Hi all. I am new to halides (from t5 only), and am building a 57 gal illuminata setup. 36" wide and 21" deep top to bottom.

I plan on a mixed reef, but a good amount of sps. I was looking at the hamilton cebu 250 watt-

Is 250 watt too much for 21 inches deep? Would like to mount with legs right over the water. The t5's would likely be a mixture of purple and blue+. Also- should I definitely go with the 36 inch model since that is the width of the tank?

Any insight would be helpful

Thanks!

Yup, go with a 36 for coverage. You could also go with the 175 watt version at 21inches of depth. I have one and use it on 21 inch deep tank, my lps grow fine on the bottom. I use the legs to suspend light and it works out well, with a minimum of light spillage.

Nice! Thanks for the input. I've definitely decided to go with the 2x250 watt version. This is my first time with halides- went from t5, to led's. What do you think of he 20k radiums? I am leaning that way, but I just want to make sure the color temp is not too blue. I like a blue tint for sure, just don't want something that looks like actinics the entire day- thoughts?

I am just setting up a 36" cadlights 70g with a single 250w halide. I haven't measured PAR yet, but it appears to be plenty of light. 2x250w would be a ton of light! (and heat).

The legs that come with the cebu only put the fixture about 2-3" off the water. Not high enough IMO, so I'm going to hang it.

Personally, I would hang the fixture if at all possible.
It comes with eye hooks that screw into the top.
This way you can play with the height which lets you play with spread and intensity.
The legs keep it pretty close to the water. This will add to water temp, too.

Nice! Same tank?

I've run that on a 58 system and now 40 breeder. Mine have been suspended to get coverage, but it's a nice amount of light that keeps everything like clams and light demanding sps happy with room on the ends for less demanding stuff as well.

I have decided to hang the light now. I agree that the extra heat isn't something I want to deal with. I am still a bit on the fence about one or 2 of the 250 watt. Ordering this week though so I will have to make a decision

I agree with trying to hang the lights first...i have a 57gal with the same measurements. Just switched from leds/T5's to a 250w Reef brite and have it hung 12" above water level. Most of the corals are sps like you. Everything is doing fine. In my opinion a single 250w fixture is plenty for this size tank. Here is a pic
